Job Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Education and experience related to position determines classification and wage on pay scale
  • Skills and knowledge to fulfill position responsibilities
  • Experience and/or training in menu planning, bulk ordering, record-keeping, sanitation, food preparation and clean-up for 60-80 people
  • Good communication skills
  • Cooperative attitude
  • Ability to work alone
  • Ability to take responsibility
  • Ability to show initiative
  • Medical examination and TB test by licensed physician with no illness detrimental to children
  • Complete a criminal background disclosure with no related offenses
  • Interest in further nutrition and food service development
  • Completion of Center orientation and required trainings including state regulations, NAEYC standards, classroom schedules, Child Abuse and Neglect training, Shaken Baby Prevention, CPR, First Aid, and AED training after hiring

Job Qualifications

  • Education and experience related to food service and nutrition
  • Experience in menu planning, bulk ordering, record-keeping, sanitation, food preparation, and clean-up
  • Good communication skills
  • Cooperative attitude and ability to work independently
  • Ability to take responsibility and show initiative
  • Knowledge of USDA, CACFP, State licensing, and NAEYC standards
  • Experience working in a childcare or educational food service setting preferred

Job Duties

  • Plan menus at least one week in advance, keeping in mind menus for adjacent weeks to avoid duplication
  • Submit final menus to Executive Director for approval, printing, and distribution
  • Note and file any changes made to final posted menus
  • Ensure menus reflect economy, sound nutrition, healthy eating practices, and balance of child food preferences and new tastes
  • Offer cultural differences and alternate foods as approved
  • Refer to current enrollment and take daily lunch count by 9:30 a.m. to plan quantities
  • Prepare summer sack lunches for field trips with appropriate storage and containers
  • Order food and supplies timely and maintain sanitary, orderly storage
  • Plan purchases to take advantage of discounts and quantity savings
  • Maintain and update recipe files
  • Maintain and submit daily CACFP production records
  • Be available for regulatory inspections
  • Follow all sanitation requirements including continual hand washing
  • Prepare appetizing, varied, nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks timely
  • Set tables, trays, and deliver meals per special instructions
  • Serve lunch on time and assist teachers with second servings
  • Clear dining room and dispose or put away food
  • Wash and put away dishes and chefware
  • Wash and fold food service laundry daily
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of dining room, kitchen, salad room, and laundry
  • Conduct daily and periodic deep cleaning of kitchen equipment and dining areas
  • Maintain good working relationships and communication with staff
  • Provide nutrition education resources
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Meet with parents regarding special food needs and allergies
  • Cooperate with staff and church members on kitchen use and cleanliness
  • Accommodate church requests and leave kitchen in good order
  • Maintain and turn in food invoices, records, menus, and related documentation
  • Participate in required staff meetings
  • Comply with occupancy requirements
  • Participate in bi-annual self-evaluations and annual staff evaluations
  • Participate in continuing education and in-services for professional growth
