At The Learning Experience, the role of Cook is essential in supporting the wellbeing and development of children by preparing nutritious, balanced, and visually appealing family-style meals. Cooks serve as ambassadors of happiness who nourish children with care and intention, working within a collaborative team to maintain a joyful, safe, and thriving environment. The role demands thorough knowledge and adherence to state and federal nutrition guidelines, center budget protocols, and health and safety standards. Beyond meal preparation, Cooks manage inventory, place food orders, and ensure proper food storage in accordance with all relevant regulations. They are also responsible for maintaining sanitary and safe kitchen conditions, including cleaning appliances and utensils, managing trash, and following strict hygiene and safety procedures. This role requires a confident individual who demonstrates a growth mindset and passion for impacting children’s developmental needs positively. Cooks at The Learning Experience foster respectful relationships with regulatory representatives, families, and staff, contributing to a harmonious and supportive workplace. Compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 to $17.00 per hour. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Relevant experience in childcare or commercial kitchen settings
  • Valid food service or handler's permit as required
  • Compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing
  • Ability to work in varying environmental temperatures
  • Ability to supervise children visually and audibly

Job Qualifications

  • Must meet state-specific educational guidelines
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Early childhood education coursework preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Relevant experience in a licensed childcare facility kitchen, commercial kitchen, or public school cafeteria
  • Possess a valid food service/handler's permit or license as required by state/local regulations
  • Compliance with state-specific guidelines for the role
  • Ability to follow state and federal health, immunization, physical, and training regulations
  • Use sound judgment to identify and address risks in a childcare environment
  • Ability to ensure children’s safety and meet their basic needs
  • Ability to model positive social behaviors and strong communication
  • Support development through engaging, age-appropriate activities
  • Maintain composure, patience, and professionalism at all times
  • Demonstrated physical resilience including lifting up to 40 pounds and standing for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Plan, post, and follow approved nutritionally sound menus with substitutions as needed
  • Keep accurate inventory records and place food orders within the center food budget
  • Chop, cut, prepare, and serve food in quantities based on daily attendance
  • Serve food at appropriate temperatures in classroom-safe serving containers
  • Maintain safe storage of all food, supplies, and equipment following state/local regulations
  • Follow all health, hygiene, and safety procedures including proper lifting and handwashing techniques
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, cookware, and kitchen appliances using approved methods
