Job Description

Franklin Inn Mexican Restaurant is a well-established and beloved eatery situated in the vibrant North Hills area of Pittsburgh, specifically in Franklin Park. Founded in 1978, this family-owned restaurant has cultivated a reputation for delivering authentic Mexican cuisine coupled with warm neighborhood hospitality. The restaurant operates as a small but bustling 55-seat venue featuring both a dining room and bar, offering a casual and eclectic atmosphere where guests can experience appetizers, entrees, desserts, signature margaritas, and more—all crafted with high-quality, mostly scratch-made ingredients. Franklin Inn's commitment to excellence and community connection has been a cornerstone of its lasting success, drawing in a loyal patronage that appreciates its distinctive menu and friendly vibe.

The position available is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about Mexican cuisine and eager to contribute to a dynamic kitchen team. This role offers the unique chance to immerse oneself fully in the operations of a small but busy restaurant, taking on diverse tasks that span prep and line cooking, as well as occasional expo and take-out duties. Flexibility in work hours is important, as shifts include evenings and weekends, with a particular emphasis on Wednesdays when the head line cook is off. Safety and cleanliness are paramount, requiring adherence to ServSafe standards and participation in kitchen equipment maintenance. The role also extends into catering, involving preparation, packaging, and eventually helping to cost catering jobs—an area the restaurant intends to grow. Over time, this position offers the chance to influence kitchen procedures and contribute creatively to new Mexican-inspired seasonal menus and weekly specials. Candidates with a desire to deepen their knowledge of Mexican cooking, interest in the plant-based and vegan market segments, and basic Spanish skills will find this role especially rewarding.

Franklin Inn values team players who bring positivity and professionalism, demonstrating leadership by example and fostering a drama-free, customer-focused environment. In addition to the engaging work environment, the restaurant offers several benefits including closure on Sundays and major holidays, retirement plan contributions, and shift meals. The role is available for both part-time and full-time candidates, requiring a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week. Reliable personal transportation is essential due to a lack of public transit access. This position invites culinary enthusiasts who want to grow with a locally cherished restaurant and make a meaningful impact within a welcoming community-focused setting.
