The role of Prepared Foods Team Member at Whole Foods Market is an essential position within the Prepared Foods department. It involves supporting various food preparation and customer service tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient operation. Team members in this role are responsible for cutting, preparing, and serving a diverse range of hot and cold foods including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salads, and pizzas. The position requires maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards while stocking displays and cases with fresh products from the kitchen and walk-in refrigerators. Team members must consistently monitor product freshness by checking in-stock dates and rotating stock accordingly to minimize spoilage and waste.

Customer interaction is a key component of this role. Prepared Foods Team Members are expected to provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service at all times, including sampling products to customers and assisting with inquiries. They must be proactive in suggestive selling to maximize sales opportunities and contribute positively to the store environment. The role includes responsibilities such as completing required documentation including spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets, assisting with inventory checks, and supporting Team Leaders with organizing and merchandising items. Adherence to health and safety protocols, as well as compliance with the company's Standard Operating Procedures, is mandatory in all tasks. Individuals should be able to work in a fast-paced setting while demonstrating a strong work ethic and attention to detail. The job also demands physical stamina for tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and handling various equipment including knives, box cutters, and pallet jacks. Additionally, flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.

Job Requirements

  • No prior retail experience required
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Cuts and prepares a variety of hot and cold foods including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salad, and pizza
  • samples products to customers
  • stocks hot and cold cases and displays with prepared foods
  • checks product dates for freshness and rotates stock
  • bails and consolidates recyclables
  • assists Team Leader in organizing and displaying volume and seasonal items
  • completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets
  • assists with periodic inventory checks
  • arrives at work station on time, appropriately groomed and ready to work
  • provides excellent customer service and models suggestive selling techniques
  • follows established procedures including health and sanitation and safe work practices
  • maintains clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • reports safety hazards and violations immediately
