The role of a Prepared Foods Team Leader at Whole Foods Market is vital to the daily operations and success of the Prepared Foods department. This leadership position carries a wide range of responsibilities, including managing profitability, controlling expenses, overseeing buying and merchandising activities, managing labor, ensuring regulatory compliance, and executing special projects. The Team Leader is accountable for all aspects of team member management—covering hiring decisions, development initiatives, corrective actions, and separations—ensuring the team operates cohesively and achieves department goals.

Leadership skills are critical, as the role involves mentoring, motivating, and providing timely performance evaluations to team members, developing a high-performance culture and minimizing turnover.

In addition to leadership responsibilities, the prepared foods leader must commit to food safety certification and uphold all relevant health and safety regulations. They will also utilize proficiency in financial performance assessment, inventory control, and technology applications such as Microsoft Office and other operation-related software. This role requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, and physical stamina to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.

The wage range for this position is $25.10 to $42.50 hourly, commensurate with experience. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 24 months retail experience including 12 months of team leadership experience
  • ability to lift 50 pounds
  • able to stand and walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday
  • capable of single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
  • able to bend, twist, squat, and reach
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • ability to work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and in wet and dry conditions
  • willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management
  • food safety certification or commitment to complete certification within six months
  • excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
  • capable of teaching others positively and constructively
  • advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
  • proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance and managing inventory
  • demonstrated decision-making and leadership skills with ability to prioritize and delegate
