The role of the Prepared Foods Team Leader/Manager at Giant Eagle is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation and success of the prepared foods department. This leadership position involves providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to team members to enhance their skills and maximize team efficiency. The leader plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation, while also ensuring compliance with health regulations and company policies. Through effective team management, including scheduling and work assignments, the team leader fosters an organized and productive environment. This role also supports business growth by implementing merchandising initiatives, supporting in-store promotions, and building strong, lasting relationships with customers. A prepared foods leader encourages continuous development, identifies potential management candidates, and contributes actively to cost control measures by monitoring budgets and understanding profit and loss reports. Those in this position will also handle direct food preparation tasks including cooking, frying, grilling, and prepping items such as chopping, slicing, and dicing. Attention to detail, such as maintaining accurate department records, managing food storage, and ensuring proper product labeling and rotation, is essential in meeting both safety and customer satisfaction goals. Job Duties

  • Maintain food quality standards without variation
  • maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation
  • maintain all equipment in good working order
  • supervise prepared food team members to achieve maximum production and efficiency when prep foods team leader/manager is not there
  • assist prepared foods team leader/manager in controlling operating expenses and achieve budgeted food and labor cost
  • understand P&L/LOB reports
  • manage the department team members by writing schedules and work assignments and enforcing all company policies
  • increase profits by supporting in-store ads, sampling, and special events
  • be aware of competitors in area
  • organize and maintain all food storage areas in accordance with health and safety requirements including labeling/code dating, cross contamination, and temperature
  • maintain accurate department records to ensure documentation is available for review during various audits
  • analyze the customer satisfaction survey and mystery shopper reports to identify areas in which improvement is needed
  • work together with prepared foods team leader/manager to coach team member(s) accordingly
  • ensure that proper procedures are being followed to meet the out-of-stock percentage goal
  • promote the continuous development of team members and identify candidates for management development program
  • prepare food for customers by cooking, frying, and grilling
  • process includes prep work such as chopping, dicing, and slicing
  • read recipes and follow instructions
  • set up gourmet food cases, maintain display throughout the day
  • package, weigh, and display food for grab and go case
  • check dates on products routinely
  • suggestive selling with knowledge of products in department
  • sampling products for customers
