The Prepared Foods Team Leader role at Giant Eagle is a pivotal position designed for a candidate who embodies honesty, engagement, and authenticity with a genuine curiosity for food. This role primarily involves managing and leading the Prepared Foods Teams across multiple store locations, ensuring that operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in a way that delights both Team Members and guests. The Prepared Foods Team Leader acts as a mentor and coach, guiding team members to deliver excellent service, while managing the daily activities of the department. They are responsible for inspiring the team and customers alike, encouraging culinary creativity, and providing an exceptional experience from meal prep to final presentation.

This position requires strong leadership skills to drive team performance and uphold the department’s operational standards. The leader handles scheduling, interviews, training, team motivation, and conflict resolution. Their accountability extends to managing budgets, inventories, and compliance measures to maintain safety and product quality. The role also includes developing future leaders within the team, fostering an inclusive environment that encourages diverse voices, and continuously seeking innovative ideas to improve business outcomes. Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Food Safety certification
  • Retail work experience or store leader recommendation

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Retail leadership or supervisory experience
  • Successful performance as a Peer Trainer, in-store champion, or similar role
  • Demonstrated product knowledge relevant to department
  • Satisfactory performance and discipline record
  • Food Safety certification

Job Duties

  • Interview, select and train Team Members
  • Direct the work of Team Members
  • Appraise Team Members’ productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in status
  • Handle Team Member issues including complaints
  • Discipline Team Members
  • Plan the work
  • Distribute or assign the work among Team Members
  • Provide for the safety and security of Team Members or the store
  • Manage the budget for your department or location
  • Manage inventory for your department or location
  • Monitor or implement compliance measures
  • Direct, oversee, and evaluate training provided to department Team Members to reduce turnover, promote efficiency and control labor costs
  • Provide motivational leadership to an amazing team by focusing on respect and by setting an exemplary example
  • Identify strengths and opportunities of the team and think strategically when making moves and scheduling
  • Develop future leaders, identify Team Members who are poised to rise through the ranks
  • Nurture an environment of inclusion and diversity, giving each Team Member a voice
  • Maintain safety as the top priority in all aspects of our work
  • Inspire the team and our guests with a passion for food and a willingness to go the extra mile
  • Set and reach aggressive sales and profit goals by making suggestions when appropriate, while also managing shrink
  • Establish an ongoing communication plan with the team
  • Communicate with the merchandising team to ensure that promotions are properly communicated
  • Make innovative plans and suggestions to improve our business
  • Review and analyze financial, LOB reports, and historical reports to improve performance
  • Oversee period inventories for accuracy and monitor weekly fluctuations in inventory and shrink dollars
