The role of a Team Member at Whole Foods Market is dynamic and multifaceted, encompassing responsibilities that are central to daily store operations in the Prepared Foods department. This position focuses on performing all functions related to food preparation, counter service, sanitation, and stocking products, while consistently providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and fellow Team Members. Employment in this role is hourly, with wage rates ranging from $15.00 to $24.40 per hour, commensurate with experience. In this role, Team Members are expected to adhere strictly to store Standard Operating Procedures and contribute actively to supporting Whole Foods Market’s core values and quality goals. Team Leaders, in particular, are required to spend considerable time engaging with customers on the floor, offering assistance wherever necessary to ensure excellent service and smooth operations.

The responsibilities include assisting with the production of all Prepared Foods venue items, ensuring proper labeling, dating, and rotation of products, and consistently meeting the company’s quality and preparation standards. The role demands meticulous documentation of waste and spoilage, adherence to precise recipe measurements, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of storage areas such as walk-ins and freezers. Team Members are also expected to educate customers about the unique benefits of Whole Foods Market’s products compared to conventional grocery stores.

Exceptional customer service is paramount, including timely resolution of customer needs, suggestive selling, and prompt, courteous communication via phone or in person. Team Members maximize sales potential by following correct procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products while ensuring compliance with health, sanitation, and safety standards. The role requires performing various opening, mid-shift, and closing duties, maintaining pricing accuracy, and immediately reporting any safety hazards or violations.

Successful candidates for this role possess thorough product knowledge, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. They are passionate about natural foods, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and can perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for long hours, use various tools and equipment safely, and work under different temperature conditions. Job Duties

  • Assists with production for all Prepared Foods venues
  • ensures all prepared foods are properly labeled, dated, initialed, covered, and rotated
  • ensures product meets Whole Foods Market guidelines for quality and preparation
  • documents waste and spoilage using appropriate forms
  • ensures product production is performed using correct measuring devices and all recipes are followed
  • helps customers understand the difference between Whole Foods Market products and products at conventional stores
  • ensures walk-ins and freezers are kept clean and well-organized
  • arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
  • maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • follows and complies, or ensures compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
