This position is an entry-level role within the Prepared Foods department, emphasizing food preparation, product quality, customer service, and sanitation. The ideal team member will be responsible for assisting in the production of all prepared foods while ensuring compliance with Whole Foods Market’s high standards for quality and safety. Responsibilities include proper labeling, rotating, and maintaining food products, documenting waste, and ensuring clean and organized storage areas. A significant focus is placed on interacting positively with customers and fellow team members, reflecting the company’s dedication to superior service and teamwork. The role requires adherence to safety and sanitation regulations and active participation in store programs and initiatives. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and heavy machinery
  • Must stand or walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour shift
  • Ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Exposure to temperatures below freezing, refrigerated, and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • No prior retail experience required
  • Ability to arrive on time, appropriately groomed and dressed
  • Ability to attend required training and meetings

  • Thorough product knowledge
  • Ability to make an adequate number of recipes per shift based on batch size
  • Capable of accessing information about market conditions and communicating it to customers
  • Understands spoilage and supply waste and how it affects department profits
  • Working knowledge and application of all merchandising expectations within the department
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures

Job Duties

  • Assist with production for all Prepared Foods venues
  • Ensure all prepared foods are properly labeled, dated, initialed, covered, and rotated
  • Ensure product meets WFM guidelines for quality and preparation
  • Document waste and spoilage using appropriate forms
  • Ensure product production is performed using correct measuring devices and all recipes are followed
  • Help customers understand the difference between WFM products and products at conventional stores
  • Ensure that walk-ins and freezers are kept clean and well-organized
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • Work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings
  • Provide excellent customer service, address needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and model suggestive selling techniques
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • Follow and comply, or ensure compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • Maintain equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • Ensure accuracy of signs and pricing
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations
