Job Description
This job opportunity is with a natural foods market specializing in fresh, organic, non-GMO products, operating a fully scratch kitchen approach within their Prepared Foods Department. This company emphasizes a commitment to providing high-quality, wholesome food options that align with natural food values, reinforcing the importance of nutrition, sustainability, and exceptional customer service. The market functions through various interlinked stations including the Kitchen, Deli, Sandwich Bar, Hot Bar, Salad Bar, Bakery, Pizza Counter, Coffee, and Fresh Juice Bar, all managed cohesively under the leadership of the Prepared Foods Manager. The company culture promotes teamwork, leadership development, and continuous improvement to ensure a consistently outstanding customer experience. Employment is full-time, allowing the successful candidate to fully immerse in their leadership role and operational responsibilities while enjoying competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
The Prepared Foods Manager is responsible for leading all facets of the Prepared Foods Department to achieve excellence in food quality, safety, customer service, and financial outcomes. This role demands a hands-on, operationally focused leader with in-depth knowledge of culinary practices, especially within a natural foods context. You will be expected to strictly implement corporate recipes, programs, and merchandising standards, ensuring flawless daily execution through well-organized production scheduling, inventory management, and merchandising. Leadership is a critical responsibility where you will direct and develop a team including the Assistant Kitchen Manager and Assistant Deli Manager, fostering an engaging and respectful environment that motivates staff and supports talent retention. Through effective communication and collaboration with higher management such as the Store Manager and Director of Prepared Foods, this position also plays a strategic role in meeting the store's broader business goals.
Key performance indicators include achieving financial targets for sales, margins, labor, and inventory control, as well as maintaining high standards of safety and regulatory compliance. The Manager will manage purchasing and vendor relationships to optimize product freshness and profitability, while also controlling shrink and waste within the department. This position requires strong organizational, financial, and leadership skills, along with an ability to train and motivate staff effectively. Additionally, the role involves regular performance evaluations, onboarding of new employees, and administration of disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies. Maintaining an excellent customer experience by responding to feedback and engaging customers about product knowledge is also central to this role.
The work environment is dynamic, involving the ability to work under varying temperature conditions, safely operate kitchen equipment, and maintain physical stamina for standing and moving throughout shifts. The ideal candidate will have a passion for natural foods, an operational mindset, and the resilience needed to thrive in a fast-paced culinary setting. Overall, this opportunity suits a dedicated leader looking to make a significant impact within a company that values high standards, sustainability, and community-focused service.
