The role described here is a leadership position within the Prepared Foods department, which plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards of product quality, customer service, and team operations. This position involves assisting in scheduling and supervising team members, managing the daily workflow of the department, and supporting the Prepared Foods Team Leader and Associate Team Leader to ensure smooth and efficient operations. The person in this role will oversee the presentation and maintenance of prepared foods, coffee, and juice displays, ensuring they are always clean, well-stocked, and appealing to customers. They will also be responsible for training new team members using established learning materials to build a strong, knowledgeable, high-performance team while minimizing turnover.

Key responsibilities include delegating tasks, ensuring all breaks are taken properly, communicating team concerns effectively, maintaining rigorous health and safety standards including food safety regulations, and fostering a positive, respectful, and highly motivated team environment. Attention to superior retail execution and customer satisfaction is paramount, requiring excellent interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and decision-making acumen. The job also requires proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, inventory and operations-related applications, and mathematical skills for monitoring departmental financial performance and profitability. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for 6 to 8 hours daily, and working in varying temperature conditions ranging from freezing to warm environments. The role also demands flexibility in scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job Requirements

  • 12+ months retail experience
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures including freezing, refrigerated, and warm environments
  • ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery

Job Duties

  • Supervises and delegates tasks to Prepared Foods Team Members
  • works with Prepared Foods Trainer to train Team Members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • assists in training of new Team Members, utilizing learning checklists and training materials
  • keeps all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated
  • opens and closes department according to established procedures
  • ensures all necessary breaks are given
  • communicates team concerns to the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader
  • sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
  • responds promptly to customer needs and questions
  • selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • consistently communicates and models WFM vision and goals
