The role offered is a leadership position supporting the Team Leader in various facets of daily store operations including profitability, expense management, purchasing, merchandising, labor coordination, regulatory compliance, and completion of special projects. This role is crucial in maintaining high standards of retail execution by leading and developing team members, ensuring outstanding customer service, and fostering a positive work environment. The incumbent will handle vendor relationships, assist with store sales and operational analysis, and act as a point person in the absence of the Team Leader. This position requires a high level of energy, advanced product knowledge, proficiency in operational tools, and a commitment to reflecting Whole Foods Market’s core values and goals. This role is perfect for individuals with at least 18 months of retail team member experience and 6 months of supervisory experience, and who are passionate about leading teams, coaching others, and growing within a company dedicated to social and environmental responsibility.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 18 months retail Team Member experience
  • minimum 6 months supervisory experience
  • capable of lifting 50 pounds
  • able to stand or walk for 6-8 hours per 8-hour workday
  • ability to perform hand use tasks such as single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • able to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • able to work in temperatures ranging below freezing to above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • able to work in wet and dry conditions
  • flexible schedule availability including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 18+ months retail Team Member experience
  • 6+ months supervisory experience
  • excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
  • advanced product knowledge
  • proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
  • demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills
  • strong team building and customer relationship skills
  • ability to teach and mentor others positively
  • advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
  • proficient mathematical skills for financial assessment and inventory management

Job Duties

  • Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising
  • works with Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets
  • assists Team Leader in analysis of sales, reports and labor
  • demonstrates advanced product knowledge and develops / maintains awareness of new products
  • maintains good vendor relationships, develops new vendor relations, and ensures all paperwork is properly submitted for vendor processing
  • works with Team Leader to resolve team concerns or issues
  • functions as point person and departmental person in charge in absence of Team Leader
  • sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • consistently communicates and models WFM vision and goals
  • maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
  • responds promptly to customer needs and questions
  • selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
