Job Description
Whole Foods Market is a leading supermarket chain that specializes in offering natural and organic products. Founded with a mission to promote healthier lifestyles and sustainable agriculture, Whole Foods Market has grown into an influential global brand that continues to revolutionize the grocery industry. The company is deeply committed to nourishing people and the planet by improving how individuals eat, supporting community initiatives such as funding grants for school gardens, providing access to fresh and healthy foods in underserved areas known as food deserts, and working to alleviate poverty in developing countries. More than just a grocery store, Whole Foods Market represents a strong commitment to social and environmental change, drawing a workforce passionate about making a positive impact within their communities and beyond.
The role at Whole Foods Market involves assisting the Team Leader in daily store operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functionality across various areas including profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor management, regulatory compliance, and special projects. This leadership position requires developing and mentoring team members to foster a positive work environment and achieve high-performance team standards. The candidate will be expected to help create and maintain an engaging and creative store layout and product merchandising strategy. Working closely with the Team Leader, the role focuses on meeting sales, purchasing, and labor goals while maintaining excellent vendor relationships and managing all associated paperwork.
In this position, the individual acts as the primary point person and departmental leader in the Team Leader’s absence, setting and upholding the highest retail execution standards. A key component of the role includes fostering teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale within the team. The candidate must consistently communicate the company’s vision and goals and remain attentive to customer needs, directing team members to provide outstanding service that delights customers. The position also involves selecting, training, coaching, and mentoring team members, conducting performance evaluations, and sustaining a supportive environment to minimize turnover.
Candidates should exhibit high energy, enthusiasm, and a strong affinity for Whole Foods Market’s products, core values, and philosophy. A growth mindset toward increased responsibility and ownership is essential. The role demands excellent interpersonal, motivational, and team-building skills, along with the ability to teach others in a constructive manner. Advanced product knowledge and familiarity with regulatory and safety policies are critical, as are proficient mathematical skills to manage financial performance and inventory.
The successful applicant will possess a minimum of 18 months retail team member experience and at least 6 months supervisory experience. Physical demands include the ability to lift 50 pounds, stand or walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour shift, and the capacity to bend, twist, squat, reach, and use hands for grasping and manipulation. Working conditions will vary, often involving exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, varying temperatures, and wet or dry environments. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays is required, along with the ability to operate equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and possibly ladders.
The wage range for this position is $19.05 to $33.20 hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers a comprehensive benefits program known as Whole Benefits, which includes store discounts, paid time off, financial wellness resources, health and wellness support programs, and various team member perks. Eligibility for these benefits depends on the work location, length of service, and job type. Whole Foods Market is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fair employment practices regardless of race, gender, age, or other protected characteristics. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a company that is not only a retail leader but also a world-changer focused on creating meaningful impact and sustained growth.
