Job Description
Community Food Co-op is a community-owned natural foods grocery store dedicated to providing high-quality food, supporting sustainability, and embracing the cooperative business model. The co-op takes pride in being deeply rooted in its community, aiming to serve its members and customers through a commitment to inclusivity, engagement, and support in the workplace. As a cooperative, it stands out by fostering a work environment that promotes respect, integrity, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. The co-op values employees who deliver excellent customer service, produce quality work, show reliability and dedication to their team, and enjoy collaborating to make a meaningful positive impact every day.
The Prepared Foods Assistant Manager, Front-of-House (FOH) is a full-time role within the Prepared Foods department, reporting directly to the Prepared Foods Department Manager. This position plays a crucial role in overseeing front-of-house operations, providing direct supervision to Shift Leaders and FOH staff, and ensuring that daily activities align with the co-op's high standards for customer service, food quality, and team performance. The assistant manager works closely with both front-of-house and back-of-house teams to maintain seamless operational flow, uphold food safety practices, and create an inviting and organized environment for customers.
Key responsibilities for this role include supervising daily FOH activities such as stocking, merchandising, and display presentation; ensuring Shift Leaders manage their teams effectively; and monitoring the quality and presentation of prepared food offerings like the hot bar and service case. This role also involves ordering and inventory duties to manage FOH products and ingredients while adhering to First-In-First-Out (FIFO) and minimizing shrink.
In addition to operations management, the assistant manager is responsible for staff leadership and training. This includes creating and maintaining daily task lists, developing training programs focused on customer service and operational workflows, scheduling, and providing constructive feedback. Ensuring compliance with food safety standards and that all FOH employees possess valid food worker cards is also critical.
Customer service excellence is a core focus, requiring the assistant manager to ensure that all staff provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service. Addressing and resolving customer inquiries and complaints promptly is essential, as is facilitating communication between FOH and BOH teams to respond to customer feedback and product-related questions.
The role demands leadership in compliance and safety by overseeing food safety programs, conducting regular inspections of FOH areas, and ensuring adherence to health, safety, and food handling requirements. As a communication hub, the assistant manager collaborates with the BOH Assistant Manager, supports Shift Leaders as their point of escalation, and communicates operational needs and staffing updates to the Prepared Foods Manager.
To be successful, candidates should possess strong organizational and delegation skills, effective communication, the ability to manage pressure and problem-solve, and a working knowledge of food safety and sanitation. Experience in food service or prepared foods environments, particularly in leadership or team workflow support roles, is preferred. Physical demands include the ability to stand and move extensively during shifts, use kitchen tools and equipment safely, and perform repetitive tasks while maintaining high-quality standards.
This role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $26.13 to $27.83 and provides various benefits designed to support employee well-being and financial security. These include staff discounts, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options, a 401(k) plan with a match, paid time off, pay on demand, and access to an employee assistance program. The Community Food Co-op is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring fair consideration for all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other protected characteristics.
In summary, this Prepared Foods Assistant Manager, FOH position offers a compelling opportunity to contribute to a community-focused organization, lead a dedicated team, and help deliver outstanding customer experiences while upholding high standards of food quality and safety.
