Job Description

The Community Food Co-op is a respected community-owned natural foods grocery store dedicated to providing high-quality food products while emphasizing sustainability and the cooperative business model. As a cooperative, the store is deeply rooted in serving its local community, striving to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive workplace environment. The Co-op’s mission focuses not only on excellent product quality but also on fostering a business culture that values respect, integrity, personal growth, and collaboration among team members. By prioritizing these values, the Community Food Co-op aims to be a leader in employment practices, setting higher standards through a culture that encourages teamwork and positive impact.

The role available is for a Prepared Foods Assistant Manager, Front-of-House (FOH), a full-time, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Prepared Foods Department Manager. This role plays a critical part in ensuring smooth front-of-house operations within the prepared foods department. The Assistant Manager oversees FOH daily activities including supervising Shift Leaders and FOH staff, maintaining customer service standards, food quality, and ensuring operational performance meets set expectations.

As the FOH Assistant Manager, the individual will be responsible for training and developing staff, creating efficient work processes, and ensuring consistent communication and alignment across shifts. The role includes overseeing stocking, merchandising, display presentation, and ensuring that all prepared food offerings such as hot bars and service cases are fresh, well-stocked, and visually appealing. Additionally, this position monitors front-of-house cleanliness, organization, and accessibility to deliver a positive customer experience.

Leadership responsibilities extend to task management and delegation, supporting Shift Leaders in prioritizing work efficiently. Training programs focusing on customer service and operational procedures are developed and implemented under this role to enhance team performance and service quality. The Assistant Manager also plays a key role in ensuring compliance with food safety standards, including maintaining valid food worker cards for all FOH staff and overseeing adherence to health and safety protocols.

Customer service excellence is a top priority, with expectations to address and resolve customer inquiries and concerns promptly in collaboration with back-of-house (BOH) teams. Effective communication between FOH and BOH ensures that customer feedback is relayed and product questions are handled effectively.

Safety and compliance are managed through leadership of food safety programs and routine inspections to ensure cleanliness and compliance with departmental standards. Coordination efforts include working closely with the BOH Assistant Manager for seamless prepared foods operations, providing support and escalation points for Shift Leaders during shifts, and reporting operational updates to the Prepared Foods Manager. This role supplies vital feedback on FOH product performance to aid in inventory and production planning.

The Community Food Co-op values individuals who are motivated, reliable, and take pride in delivering excellent customer service and quality work. The role requires the ability to stay calm under pressure, prioritize tasks efficiently, and maintain a collaborative and professional environment. Physical requirements are also an essential aspect of the role, as it involves extended periods of standing and walking, lifting of moderate weight, and operating various kitchen tools and equipment. The Co-op offers comprehensive benefits including a substantial staff discount, competitive insurance options, retirement plan with matching contributions, paid time off, and access to an employee assistance program. This is an excellent opportunity to join a workplace committed to community, sustainability, and cooperative growth while advancing your leadership skills in the food service industry.
