Job Description
Sam's Club is a leading membership-only warehouse club that provides exceptional value on quality merchandise and expects superior customer service. As a subsidiary of Walmart Inc., it operates thousands of locations across the United States, offering a variety of products, ranging from fresh foods and groceries to electronics and apparel. Sam's Club is known for its commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and its focus on creating a satisfying shopping experience that delivers value to its members. The company culture emphasizes respect for individuals, integrity, teamwork, and continuous improvement, fostering an inclusive environment where associates are encouraged to grow and excel in their careers.
The Prepared Foods and Café Department Lead plays a pivotal role within Sam's Club by managing and leading the team responsible for the creation and service of high-quality prepared food items such as café offerings, rotisserie chickens, and other freshly prepared meals. This leadership position is designed to drive sales and enhance the member experience by ensuring that food quality, production, sanitation, and safety standards meet or exceed company and regulatory expectations. The role requires supervising hourly associates, facilitating team rotations through different prepared foods areas, and orchestrating operations to align with the overall business plan of the club.
In this role, the Department Lead leverages digital tools and handheld technology to effectively manage production schedules, training, and product quality, ensuring efficiency and operational continuity. They collaborate with third-party vendors and other departments such as maintenance and suppliers to guarantee seamless workflows and address any operational challenges promptly. This role demands expertise in food production, inventory management, equipment use, and compliance with safety and sanitation protocols.
Sam's Club values leadership qualities that include being a talent ambassador who identifies training needs, promotes career development, and fosters an environment of respect and inclusion among associates. The Department Lead is expected to demonstrate Walmart's core values by acting with integrity, supporting ethical business practices, and contributing positively to the associate and customer experience. This position also emphasizes the importance of serving customers and members by delivering excellent results and making informed decisions with a focus on long-term business sustainability.
The company offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $21.00 to $29.00, with additional premiums possible based on factors like schedule, facility, or specific work performed. Associates receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes health coverage (medical, vision, dental), financial benefits such as 401(k), stock purchase options, and company-paid life insurance. Paid time off benefits include PTO, parental leave, family care leave, bereavement, jury duty, and voting leave. Additional perks include disability coverage, company discounts, military leave pay, and adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement. Sam's Club also offers Live Better U, a fully company-funded education program aimed at supporting full-time and part-time associates’ educational goals.
This position requires a minimum of six months experience in a fresh production department or six months of supervisory experience managing a team. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must successfully complete all job-required training and assessments within a specified time frame upon hiring. Preferred qualifications include supervisory experience and food handler certification in food safety. The primary location for this position is at 1101 73rd St, Des Moines, IA. Sam's Club maintains a drug-free workplace and enforces a strict no-tolerance policy for illegal drugs and alcohol to ensure a safe and productive environment.
