The role of Prepared Food Cook is a full-time position, primarily responsible for preparing and cooking quality deli and bakery food items as directed by the Department Manager. This position is essential in ensuring that customers receive not only delicious and properly prepared foods but also prompt and courteous service that enhances customer confidence and loyalty to the brand. The Prepared Food Cook must handle various cooking equipment safely and efficiently, stock and rotate food items to ensure freshness, monitor food temperatures, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
The role demands high attention to detail in food preparation and presentation, ensuring that all products meet company specifications including portion control, freshness, and visual appeal. Additionally, the cook is responsible for communicating effectively with management regarding any equipment issues, safety hazards, or violations such as theft or unauthorized markdowns. By adhering to strict safety and sanitation guidelines, the Prepared Food Cook helps uphold the company’s standards and regulatory compliance.
This position also requires ongoing interaction with customers, suggesting products, answering questions, and providing a positive shopping experience. The work environment involves using various department equipment such as chicken fryers, rotisserie ovens, stoves, slicers, and electronic scales. The Prepared Food Cook must be adaptable to varied shifts and maintain high food quality and safety standards regardless of the time or workload.
Applicants should possess at minimum a high school diploma or GED and some supervisory experience is preferred. Fluency in English is required; bilingual skills in Spanish are considered an asset. Job Duties
- Provide continuous attention to customer needs
- greet, assist and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner
- arrange, prepare, portion and cook food according to company specifications
- offer product suggestions when appropriate
- sanitize work station and equipment including chicken fryers, rotisserie, hot case, stove, and utensils
- stock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date control
- restock and use supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and to maintain the lowest supply cost
- operate department equipment and tools including scale, printer cash register
- understand and follow required daily varieties, case color merchandising, “ready by” times, and shelf life guidelines
- keep work area clean, orderly and free from safety hazards
- report faulty equipment and hazards to management
- monitor food temperatures
- change out pans, utilize hot bar production guide, prepare product for self service display, break down hot case and monitor portion control
- record hot food tracking chart statistics
- notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark-downs, property defacement or any action that is illegal and/or against company
- perform other job-related duties as assigned
