This role is within the 11953 Non Enterprise Corporate Food and Nutrition department, specifically serving the cafeteria operations. It is a full-time position with standard work weeks of 40 hours, scheduled for late shifts from 4:00 pm to 12:30 am with rotating weekends and two days off per week. The pay range for this job is $19.80 to $29.70 per hour, reflecting considerations such as qualifications, skills, experience, and training. The position is benefits-eligible and includes access to comprehensive Total Rewards programs encompassing health benefits, retirement plans, educational assistance, and more.
The primary responsibilities of this position center on food preparation, plating, and some tray line preparation for patients and customers. The employee contributes directly to positive patient and customer satisfaction by maintaining the highest standards of service and quality. Emphasis is placed on adhering to sanitation policies to consistently maintain a 97% or higher rating from the Health Department, as well as sustaining a double gold rating from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). The department targets a minimum average Gold Check score of silver, ensuring that Sodexo quality standards are consistently met. The individual monitors food product quality at stations, ensures compliance with recipes and departmental guidelines, manages productivity and service schedules, and enforces workplace safety and sanitation regulations. Training requirements include mandatory in-service training, compliance and HIPAA education, and annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training.
The role demands teamwork, with the employee participating in continuous performance improvement initiatives and offering support across Food and Nutrition Service departments as needed. Cost control and waste minimization are critical aspects, alongside proper utilization and maintenance of equipment and supplies, strict portion control, and accurate documentation in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) protocols. At times, the employee may assume the role of Team Leader, handling work area organization, policy compliance, issue resolution related to employees or customers, and assisting department management. Essential skills for this position include fluency in English, basic math and computer skills, procedural compliance, and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders including hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
The physical work environment may involve kitchen and retail areas with exposure to potentially slippery floors and sharp equipment. The physical demands include standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other manual activities. Advocate Health is committed to supporting employees with competitive compensation, premium pay opportunities, paid time off, healthcare benefits (medical, dental, vision), retirement plans with employer matching, and professional development programs to ensure a fulfilling career journey within their innovative and patient-centered organization.
