Job Description
The University of St. Thomas, a respected institution of higher education, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Food Service Worker within its Dining Services Department. Known for its commitment to academic excellence and community values, the University of St. Thomas offers a collaborative and inclusive work environment that prides itself on supporting staff and students alike. Located in a vibrant community, the University serves a diverse population and embraces diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all employees. Being an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer, the University actively champions a culture of respect, integrity, and personal attention. Employees are encouraged to embody these ideals, fostering a workplace where everyone is valued and empowered to contribute their best.
The Food Service Worker role at the University of St. Thomas is a full-time, year-round position offering a competitive hourly wage of $18.00. This role reports directly to the University, not through a third-party food service company, ensuring a strong connection to the campus community and its values. The position typically works the afternoon to evening shift, from 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with scheduling flexibility to accommodate the University's operational needs which may include nights and weekends. This flexibility underscores the dynamic environment within which the Food Service Worker operates, requiring adaptability and dedication.
As a Food Service Worker, candidates will be engaged in both front-of-house and back-of-house food preparation duties, supporting culinary staff in delivering high-quality, customized meal options in a high-volume setting. This role demands attention to detail, adherence to health and safety standards including ServSafe food handling guidelines, and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the shift. The position is integral to the dining experience at the University, playing a key role in preparing and presenting meals that meet the diverse tastes and dietary needs of students, faculty, and staff.
Moreover, the University offers an impressive benefits package that includes tuition remission for employees and their families, comprehensive retirement contributions, extensive health coverage encompassing medical, dental, and vision plans, as well as fully paid disability, life, and AD&D insurance. Paid parental leave is also part of the benefits, reflecting the University’s commitment to the well-being of its employees and their families.
This role is designated Emergency Essential, meaning employees may be required to remain on campus during closures or report to work if the campus closing is announced before their shift begins. This highlights the University's dedication to maintaining essential services at all times. The successful candidate will have at least one year of experience in food preparation, ideally in an institutional setting, and will successfully complete a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
Joining the University of St. Thomas community means becoming part of a mission-driven institution inspired by the Catholic intellectual tradition, dedicated to educating students to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good. The Food Service Worker position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to this mission by providing excellent food service that supports the daily life and success of the University community.
