Job Description

Uchi Washington D.C. is an upcoming prestigious dining establishment located in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. at 1150 17th Street NW. This much-anticipated restaurant opening is scheduled for mid-May 2026, with orientation for new team members planned to begin in mid-April 2026. Uchi, a name meaning 'house' in Japanese, is the brainchild of James Beard Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole. The restaurant brings to the capital city a unique and refined approach to Japanese cuisine, delivering an experience that is both unexpected and unforgettable. Uchi is known for its delicate balance of elevated food and impeccable service, featuring signature tastings, innovative sushi creations, and a seasonal omakase that epitomizes culinary excellence and creativity.

Uchi is part of the Hai Hospitality group, a multi-concept, emerging restaurant group headquartered in Austin, Texas. Hai Hospitality manages a collection of award-winning restaurants, including Uchi, Uchiko, Uchiba, and Loro across several major U.S. cities including Austin, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale. This growing group emphasizes hospitality with a commitment to employee well-being, creativity, and professional growth, making it a desirable employer within the restaurant industry.

The position being offered is that of a Prep Cook, a critical role within the kitchen responsible for supporting chefs by preparing ingredients, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen space, and ensuring smooth operation of food preparation under the supervision of kitchen leadership. The position is paid competitively, offering hourly compensation ranging from $18.40 to $21, reflecting the value the company places on skilled kitchen staff and the importance of this role in delivering quality dining experiences.

This full-time role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment that demands efficiency, attention to detail, and teamwork. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold safety and sanitation standards in compliance with regulatory guidelines and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, standing, and working with kitchen equipment safely. Uchi offers an environment where employees have the opportunity to grow their skill sets, with a strong promotion-from-within culture. Health benefits, dining discounts, and financial retirement plans like an employer-matched 401k are part of the comprehensive benefits package, enhancing work-life balance and employee satisfaction.

Uchi Washington D.C. is not just a place to work; it is a place to grow professionally, immerse oneself in a passionate culinary culture, and be part of a team devoted to excellence in hospitality and food craftsmanship. It is ideal for individuals who thrive in team-oriented, dynamic settings and who are eager to contribute to an exceptional dining venue that promises to become a staple of Washington, D.C.'s upscale culinary scene.
