Job Description

Uchi Charlotte, an upcoming location of the renowned Uchi restaurant group, is set to open in Plaza Midwood's Commonwealth development in April 2026. This eatery is a proud member of the Hai Hospitality family, an acclaimed multi-concept restaurant group headquartered in Austin, Texas. Hai Hospitality has established itself as a leader in the culinary scene, with prestigious concepts including Uchi, Uchiko, Uchiba, and Loro, spread across multiple cities like Austin, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale. The group is recognized for its commitment to quality, innovation, and hospitality excellence.

Uchi itself, meaning 'house' in Japanese, was founded by James Beard Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole. The brand reflects a sophisticated and non-traditional approach to Japanese cuisine, boasting a menu that features signature tastings, exquisite sushi, and seasonal omakase experiences. This combination of culinary creativity and attentive service produces an experience that is unique and memorable for each guest.

As part of this exciting expansion, Uchi Charlotte is seeking Prep Cooks to join their team. This full-time position pays between $18 and $24 per hour, in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. Prep Cooks at Uchi Charlotte play a vital role in supporting the kitchen's smooth operation by preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and ensuring that dishes meet the restaurant's high standards.

The role demands a proactive individual who can work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while adhering strictly to safety and hygiene protocols. Candidates should expect to lift and carry trays and equipment, restock ingredients, and maintain a hygienic workspace. The physical requirements include the ability to stand and move for long periods and work efficiently in varying temperature conditions.

Uchi Charlotte values employees who communicate well with both guests and colleagues, understand safety requirements, and are motivated to contribute to a team-oriented atmosphere. The company fosters an inclusive work environment and prioritizes internal career growth, offering substantial opportunities for advancement. Employees benefit from various insurance options including medical, dental, vision, and accident coverage, along with an employee assistance program for mental health support, employer-matched 401(k) savings plans, and dining discounts.

This position is an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about Japanese cuisine and dedicated to providing exceptional guest experiences in a dynamic and evolving hospitality setting. Joining Uchi Charlotte means becoming part of a larger community dedicated to craft, creativity, and hospitality excellence, where you are encouraged to develop your skills and grow within the company.
