Job Description
Paine College, located in Augusta, Georgia, is a distinguished private Methodist-affiliated and historically black liberal arts institution committed to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and social responsibility. Founded in 1882, Paine College has long been recognized for blending academic rigor with ethical and spiritual development, preparing its students for impactful lives of service and leadership in a global society. The college’s foundation is deeply rooted in faith and driven by purpose, which shapes its mission to develop well-rounded individuals who are equipped to lead with integrity and compassion.
In partnership with Thompson Hospitality, one of the largest restaurant, food service, and facilities management companies in the United States, Paine College offers a comprehensive dining experience that complements its educational environment. Thompson Hospitality brings over 33 years of dedicated service emphasizing core values such as doing the right thing, striving for the best, and treating others with respect and dignity. Their commitment to excellence and community engagement aligns with the values upheld by Paine College, ensuring an exceptional culinary operation on campus.
We are seeking a Prep Cook to join our dynamic culinary team at Paine College. This role is essential in maintaining the high standards of taste and presentation our dining services are known for. As a part of the kitchen staff, the Prep Cook will be responsible for the precise preparation of ingredients, adherence to established recipes, and support for overall meal production. Attention to cleanliness and organization within the kitchen environment is critical, as is collaboration with fellow team members to facilitate smooth operational flow. The role demands a detail-oriented individual who is capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced, often hot and humid kitchen setting.
The Prep Cook position is both physically and mentally engaging, requiring stamina for standing and walking for extended periods, as well as manual dexterity for fine food preparation tasks such as chopping, slicing, and plating. The ability to lift and maneuver heavy items, frequently bend or stoop, and effectively use kitchen tools and equipment is essential. Sensory acuity for tasting and smelling food to ensure quality and consistency, along with the ability to visually monitor presentation and safety standards, are key components of success in this role. The Prep Cook will also need to navigate large kitchen spaces and multiple dining facilities across the campus efficiently, maintaining open and clear communication in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.
Joining this team means becoming a part of a vibrant campus community committed not only to nourishing students and staff but also to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace. Thompson Hospitality offers a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive work culture that prioritizes employee well-being and professional growth. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a passion for quality food preparation, and the ability to thrive within a team focused on delivering exceptional dining experiences.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about culinary arts and want to contribute to a meaningful mission within an educational and faith-based context. By joining Paine College and Thompson Hospitality as a Prep Cook, you will play a vital role in upholding the culinary excellence that enhances the overall campus experience, aligning your career with a respected institution dedicated to making a difference.
