Job Description

Spoko is a dynamic pop-up restaurant and catering business that specializes in Polish street food infused with international flavors. Focused on bringing a unique culinary experience to New England, Spoko’s mission centers on recreating beloved dishes from childhood while presenting them with a modern twist designed for the 21st century palate. As a company, Spoko values authenticity, creativity, and a community-driven approach to food, often hosting pop-up events at some of Boston’s finest breweries and venues. Operating primarily on a part-time, seasonal basis, Spoko offers food enthusiasts and culinary professionals a chance to engage with the community and explore the art of Polish cuisine in a lively and energetic environment.

The role of Prep Cook | Event Cook at Spoko is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about food preparation, culinary techniques, and customer engagement. This position involves managing the preparation of traditional Polish street food, such as handmade pierogi and freshly ground sausages like kielbasa, ensuring each dish maintains high standards of taste and presentation. The Prep Cook will work on multiple pop-up events approximately weekly, supporting on-site cooking and directly interacting with customers to communicate the story behind the dishes, ingredients, and cooking methods. This role not only hones culinary skills but also develops event management capabilities, including setting up venues, managing inventory, and maintaining sanitation standards.

As part of the team, the Prep Cook will learn the entire production process from scratch, using locally sourced ingredients to craft authentic flavors. Responsibilities include preparing pierogi dough, fillings, and sausage stuffing, alongside refining speed and technique in cooking. This hands-on role suits those who enjoy multitasking in fast-paced environments and thrive in diverse work settings. Candidates will also be key brand ambassadors at events, employing effective communication skills to enhance customer experience. The position requires flexibility with scheduling, including working nights, weekends, and holidays, appealing to individuals seeking part-time seasonal engagements that blend culinary passion with lively event atmospheres.

In addition to cooking duties, the Prep Cook assists in the breakdown and clean-up of event spaces, ensuring all workstations and equipment meet hygiene standards. The role demands physical stamina, the ability to lift and move supplies, and adherence to safety policies. Spoko encourages team members who bring positive attitudes, professionalism, and respect to a collaborative workplace. While not mandatory, certifications such as ServSafe or a Culinary Arts degree are advantageous, reflecting the company's commitment to quality and food safety excellence.

Joining Spoko means becoming part of a passionate and supportive team that aims to share the rich cultural essence of Polish cooking with an adventurous twist. The environment fosters learning, creativity, and fun, making it an ideal position for those who appreciate engaging with customers and enjoy vibrant working conditions. Whether you’re beginning your culinary career or looking to expand your skill set in a unique food service setting, Spoko provides a welcoming platform to do so.
