As a Prep Cook at Milk & Honey, you will play an integral role in the kitchen's smooth operation and the culinary creativity that defines the restaurant. You will be responsible for preparing ingredients with precision according to established recipes and guidelines, ensuring that each dish served meets the high standards of flavor and presentation the restaurant is known for. This role demands a strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and hygiene, which are critical to maintaining Food and Safety standards in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate closely with chefs and other kitchen staff to assist with a variety of meal production tasks that support timely and efficient service. Working in a team-oriented environment, you will contribute not only your cooking skills but also your ability to communicate effectively despite the noisy surroundings and fast operational tempo.
This position requires flexibility in scheduling, with availability on weekends and holidays to meet the demands of a busy restaurant schedule. Physical stamina is essential, as you will spend extended periods standing, moving around the kitchen, lifting ingredients and equipment up to 50 lbs, and working in conditions that may be hot or humid. The capacity to taste and smell foods to ensure quality control adds a sensory dimension to your responsibilities. Job Requirements
- Able to read documents and written instructions to understand sanitation requirements, safety rules, equipment operation and maintenance, policies, and standard operating procedures
- Stand for extended periods of time and navigate occasional wet or greasy floor conditions
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs (food product cases, bulk ingredients, kitchen equipment)
- Work in a hot, humid, and fast-paced environment
- Bend, stoop, and reach frequently
- Operate kitchen equipment safely
- Must be able to taste and smell food to ensure quality and consistency
- Able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidays
Job Qualifications
- Previous experience in a high-volume kitchen or food preparation role is preferred
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
- Strong teamwork and communication skills for effective collaboration in a dynamic kitchen environment
- Visual acuity to monitor food presentation, cleanliness, and safety standards
- Ability to communicate clearly in a noisy kitchen environment
