Fjord operates as a fast-paced environment where teamwork, attention to detail, and a dedicated workforce play a pivotal role in the daily success and growth of the company. Employees are valued contributors who have the opportunity to develop and advance within the organization, making Fjord a favorable choice for culinary professionals seeking career growth in a supportive and vibrant setting.
The role of Prep Cook at Fjord is essential to the heart of the kitchen team, offering a hands-on and fast-paced work environment. This position involves preparing ingredients, supporting the daily food production process, and ensuring that kitchen operations run seamlessly. Prep Cooks set the foundation for creating high-quality meals by maintaining organization, consistency, and food safety standards throughout every stage of preparation. The role demands strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under pressure while upholding cleanliness and operational standards. As a member of the kitchen team, the Prep Cook contributes directly to the overall customer experience by ensuring that all food preparation aligns perfectly with Fjord’s recipes and quality expectations.
Prep Cooks at Fjord take on a variety of responsibilities that foster teamwork and collaboration with Line Cooks and other kitchen staff members. The position requires washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning various ingredients such as produce, seafood, and other food items according to established prep lists and recipes. They are also entrusted with labeling, dating, and storing prepped ingredients to maintain freshness and minimize waste—a key component of efficient kitchen management. Organizational skills are paramount to keep the prep station clean, well-stocked, and ready for the busy service demands that arise during peak hours.
Compliance with strict food safety, sanitation, and allergen protocols is critical for this role, ensuring that all health standards are met without compromise. Prep Cooks also play a vital role in supporting the team during food production and plating throughout service times. Their assistance extends to cleaning and restocking duties at the end of shifts, communicating effectively with kitchen leadership about any prep-related needs or quality concerns.
Furthermore, Fjord sees the Prep Cook position as an opportunity for career advancement within its kitchen operations track. Dedicated and reliable Prep Cooks may progress to roles such as Line Cook or Shift Supervisor, taking on increased responsibilities like preparing menu items during service or leading kitchen operations and training new team members. This progression underscores Fjord’s commitment to nurturing talent and supporting professional growth within the culinary field.
Offering competitive pay ranging from $18 to $22 per hour, the Prep Cook role is tailored for individuals passionate about culinary arts and eager to contribute to a thriving team atmosphere. Fjord also provides perks such as employee discounts and complimentary family meals per shift, enhancing the work experience for its staff.
