The Kitchen Cook position at Frazier Farms Market is a full-time, non-exempt role classified under an hourly wage range of $18 to $20. Reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager, the successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the kitchen's smooth operation and upholding the company's culinary standards. This position demands hands-on food preparation skills, effective inventory management, and strict adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines. Working in this role means engaging with fast-paced environments, including casual dining, fast casual, and quick service restaurant settings, requiring flexibility in shift availability including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Kitchen Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food according to established recipes and guidelines, ensuring high-quality output consistently. In addition to culinary duties, the role demands organization and cleanliness of the kitchen, walk-in freezer, and storage areas to maintain a safe and efficient workspace. This position requires coordination with inventory management processes including receiving and unloading merchandise, stocking shelves, and managing product spoilage. A keen eye for detail and the ability to communicate effectively with management regarding inventory levels or any spoilage issues is critical. Safety compliance is paramount, with strict adherence to company policies, kitchen procedures, and FDA-approved cleaning protocols. This role also entails assisting in customer service by greeting customers and promptly addressing their needs in a courteous manner.

Physical demands include the ability to lift between 50-75 pounds, stand or walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday, and perform tasks involving bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching. Candidates must be comfortable working in varied temperature environments from freezing to hot conditions. The position requires a strong sense of time management and multitasking abilities to handle concurrent responsibilities efficiently.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds
  • Standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • Hand use includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching motions
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Exposure to temperatures including less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in a hot, wet and cold environment
  • Availability includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • 1 year of professional cooking experience
  • Work location in person

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of culinary experience
  • 2+ years in a commercial kitchen or restaurant
  • Strong communication skills
  • San Diego food handlers' card or company food handlers' card within 30 days
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time wisely

Job Duties

  • Cuts, prepares and cooks food according to company recipes and guidelines
  • Cleans and organizes kitchen area as well as walk-in and freezer
  • Able to learn, follow and enforce company policies, kitchen procedures and sanitation guidelines
  • Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise
  • Take stock to storage or shelf areas
  • Open cartons and price, display, store or break down items according to established procedures and policies
  • Keep manager informed of low inventory conditions or spoilage problems
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods
  • Assist in preparation of food products
  • Comply fully with all safety policies and procedures
  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
