Job Description
Bar Louie is a vibrant gastrobar known for its unique blend of high-quality food and exceptional hospitality. As a leading establishment in the casual dining industry, Bar Louie combines a lively atmosphere with a menu of expertly crafted dishes and handcrafted cocktails. Guests frequently return to enjoy the distinct "gastrogrub" experience, which highlights fresh ingredients and innovative flavors. The company prides itself on fostering a welcoming environment where both customers and employees feel valued. Working at Bar Louie means being part of a team dedicated to delivering memorable dining experiences through both outstanding service and culinary excellence.
The role of Prep Cook at Bar Louie is essential to the success of this gastrobar. The primary focus of the Prep Cook is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of every guest by preparing food items accurately and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. This position requires an individual who naturally demonstrates hospitality and genuinely cares about people. The Prep Cook is responsible for prepping various ingredients that form the foundation of every menu item, emphasizing precision and adherence to established recipes and safety protocols.
A typical day as a Prep Cook may involve spending time in a single station, actively prepping ingredients like vegetables, meats, or sauces, or collaborating across multiple areas such as dishwashing or assisting on the main line depending on the shift’s demands. Speed and efficiency are critical, as the Prep Cook must swiftly pivot between tasks without compromising quality or safety. This role demands someone who takes pride in their work, is eager to support teammates, and does not shy away from essential duties like cleaning or waste removal. Through these collective efforts, Prep Cooks contribute significantly to maintaining the gastrobar’s reputation by consistently delivering well-prepared food items that keep guests coming back.
In addition to hands-on food preparation, Prep Cooks at Bar Louie exemplify the company's mission, vision, and values by committing to cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards. They learn and master the preparation, labeling, rotation, and storage of all food items with 100 percent compliance to recipe guidelines and par levels. Food items must always be maintained and served at the correct temperatures to ensure quality and safety. Cost control is another important aspect, requiring precise preparation to minimize waste and manage inventory effectively.
Teamwork and communication are vital traits for a Prep Cook. They must be able to work independently and as a collaborative member of the kitchen team, cross-training where necessary to support various operations. Open communication with management and peers is essential for meeting daily goals and adapting to the fast-paced environment. The role also involves completing opening and closing duties such as putting away deliveries, cleaning dishes, and setting up or tearing down the kitchen line, ensuring a smooth transition between shifts.
The position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and move various items, stand for long periods, and work in environments with varying temperatures. Frequent hand washing and sanitation are mandatory to uphold health and safety protocols. The Prep Cook must also be comfortable using knives, slicing equipment, and other kitchen tools safely. Effective communication skills are necessary for interacting with guests and team members alike.
Bar Louie offers an inclusive work environment and is an equal opportunity employer, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds. This role provides an opportunity for those with culinary training or experience looking to grow within a dynamic kitchen setting. With a clear emphasis on teamwork, quality, and guest satisfaction, the Prep Cook position is not only a job but a chance to be part of a thriving gastropub community.
