Job Description
Sleep Walk is a vibrant culinary establishment committed to excellence in food preparation and chocolate production. Located in the heart of Chicago, Sleep Walk offers a unique blend of culinary experiences focused on both savory breakfast items and artisanal chocolate creations. This company prides itself on high standards of quality, meticulous attention to detail, and a culture of collaboration and innovation within its team. As a growing food and chocolate production facility, Sleep Walk emphasizes sustainability, product quality, and customer satisfaction, aiming to bring the best culinary delights to various retail locations across the city. The team at Sleep Walk is composed of dedicated professionals who are passionate about their craft and are continuously striving to improve and expand the offerings to their loyal clientele.
The role of Prep Cook and Chocolate Production Assistant at Sleep Walk is a full-time, hourly position starting at $17 per hour. This position demands a hardworking and reliable individual who will assist in executing the food program while also facilitating chocolate production activities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing breakfast items for delivery to Sleep Walk’s Chicago cafes, engaging directly with a dynamic culinary process from washing and chopping ingredients to cooking and assembling ready-to-serve meals. Additionally, this position plays a critical role in the chocolate production process, involving managing the entire chocolate workflow—from tempering, molding, and packaging chocolates to maintaining stock inventories and fulfilling orders efficiently.
This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks independently. Effective communication and coordination with the retail and chocolate teams ensure smooth operations across different departments. As a Prep Cook and Chocolate Production Assistant, you will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in both the kitchen and chocolate production areas while adhering to all health and safety regulations. Physical stamina is essential, as the role involves standing for long hours, lifting up to 60 pounds, and occasionally climbing stairs or ladders.
Candidates with at least a year of kitchen or kitchen/pastry experience will find this role to be a great match, especially those motivated to grow their skills in food and chocolate production. Bonus qualifications include bilingual skills in English and Spanish, which supports effective communication in Sleep Walk’s diverse workspace. Comprehensive benefits accompany this role, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, critical illness and accident coverage, 401k plan, paid sick leave, vacation time, and transit benefits, making it a competitive and rewarding opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about food and chocolate production.
