Job Description
Umami Riot is a celebrated culinary establishment founded by renowned Chef Tim Cushman and sake expert Nancy Cushman. Established with the vision to blend joyful hospitality with uncompromising craftsmanship, Umami Riot stands out as a unique dining concept that fuses bold flavor, precise techniques, and deep respect for traditional Japanese foodways. Headquartered in Boston, the brand interprets Japanese cuisine through a distinctive local lens, creating innovative dishes and dining experiences that resonate with authenticity and creativity. The company embraces a forward-thinking approach to hospitality, aiming not merely to follow the industry's conventional rules but to rewrite them with heart, craft, and fearless creativity, ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional meal and atmosphere. As part of this vibrant brand, the Fenway Food Hall location plays a crucial role in delivering the Umami Riot’s signature quality and innovative spirit to a broad and diverse audience.
Within the Fenway Food Hall, Umami Riot is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Prep Cook to join their kitchen team. The Prep Cook acts as the foundation for the kitchen’s fast-paced operation, sharpening details, organizing the prep, and ensuring that every element is ready for seamless service. This role requires a diligent, calm, and precise individual who understands that well-prepped ingredients and stations are essential to a smooth kitchen flow and excellent service. The Prep Cook’s responsibilities include carefully preparing ingredients according to prescribed recipes and standards, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and supporting basic cooking tasks while consistently communicating with team members to keep service efficient.
The position demands full engagement and stamina as the kitchen environment is active and physically demanding. The Prep Cook will work long shifts, often standing and moving through tight spaces, handling knives, fire, and heavy lifting. Professionalism, dependability, and a commitment to safety and sanitation practices are essential qualities for success in this role. Umami Riot values team members who bring consistency, integrity, and confidence to their work and who thrive under the dynamic conditions of a bustling kitchen.
Compensation for this role ranges from $18 to $23 per hour, depending on experience, reflecting the company’s commitment to competitive pay. The part-time or full-time employment arrangement is designed to suit both dedicated culinary professionals and those eager to grow within a culture of respect, creativity, and community. In addition to pay, employees benefit from dining discounts across Umami Riot locations, free parking, and opportunities for real career advancement. Umami Riot prides itself on fostering a team environment where mutual respect and creative expression are prioritized, making it an ideal workplace for those passionate about food, hospitality, and personal growth.
