Job Description
SSP America is a leading provider of food and beverage services in travel locations globally. Specializing in dynamic dining options tailored for airports, train stations, and highway rest stops, SSP America focuses on delivering exceptional culinary experiences to travelers while supporting a diverse range of food service brands. They are known for creating vibrant, customer-focused environments that incorporate local flavors and high-quality ingredients to meet the expectations of a wide audience. As part of their commitment to excellence and growth, SSP America is looking to expand their team at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport location by hiring a Prep Cook for their Commissary Warehouse. The Commissary Warehouse is an integral part of SSP America's operations, located at 9844 40th Ave S, Seattle, WA, 98118, where food preparation and inventory management are handled with precision to ensure smooth service delivery across the airport's food outlets.
The Prep Cook role at SSP America's Commissary Warehouse is a full-time position offering a competitive hourly wage of $24.85. This position comes with full benefits and paid vacation, demonstrating the company's commitment to employee well-being and satisfaction. The role demands a high level of expertise in preparing, garnishing, and presenting food items according to standardized recipes and portion controls to maintain consistency and quality across all services. Prep Cooks will be responsible for maintaining daily kitchen setups and ensuring that all required foods, paper products, and condiments are stocked adequately. They must handle, store, and rotate products properly following safety guidelines to maintain freshness and prevent waste.
Additionally, the Prep Cook will be tasked with opening, ongoing, and closing checklists to ensure operational readiness and cleanliness of the kitchen. This includes the setup, regular maintenance, cleaning, and breakdown of machinery and equipment to adhere to the highest hygiene standards. The role also involves precise stock management, including the cutting and storage of perishables to preserve product quality. Communication with management concerning product shortages and other operational issues is a key part of the job, helping to maintain smooth workflow and avoid disruptions.
Employees in this role must be prepared to perform a variety of cleaning tasks using standard products to meet health regulations. The Prep Cook will also play a flexible role within the kitchen team, handling other duties as assigned to support overall kitchen function. Candidates with at least one year of experience in a food service environment, a high school diploma (preferred), and a valid food handlers permit will find this opportunity rewarding. Verbal and written communication skills in English are essential for effective team and guest interaction. The job also requires physical ability to stand and work in confined spaces for extended periods, reflecting the demanding nature of food preparation work.
With comprehensive employee benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching, SSP America demonstrates its dedication to supporting its workforce. Additional perks such as paid holidays, paid sick leave with rollover and cash-out options, meal plans with discounts, paid meal breaks, and extended leave options make this employment opportunity attractive for those looking to build a career in the food service industry, particularly within the vibrant and fast-paced environment of airport dining services. SSP America maintains an equal opportunity policy, ensuring a fair and inclusive hiring process that respects all candidates regardless of background.
