The Prep Cook role at One World Observatory is a fundamental position within the culinary operations team, tasked with supporting daily kitchen functions through meticulous preparation of ingredients, ensuring adherence to food quality and safety standards, and executing assigned culinary responsibilities efficiently. This role is instrumental in maintaining the smooth operation of the kitchen by preparing food items according to established recipes, adhering to portion controls, and supporting sanitation and cleanliness across workstations and equipment.

As a Prep Cook, individuals will follow guidance and assignments from executive kitchen staff including the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and Kitchen Supervisors. Responsibilities include maintaining proper food handling practices such as storage, labeling, and temperature control to comply with health regulations. The position demands a proactive approach in cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas, managing inventory tasks like receiving and rotating stock, and contributing positively within a fast-paced team environment.

This role requires a person with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, communicate effectively, and handle physical demands like standing for long periods and performing repetitive motions. Working hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as necessitated by business needs.   • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team members and leadership
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and comply with uniform standards
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Follow assignments and direction from executive chef, sous chef, or kitchen supervisors regarding food preparation, opening, and closing procedures
  • Prepare ingredients and food items in accordance with established recipes, portion controls, quality standards, and departmental procedures
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and temperature controls are maintained at all times
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of workstations, kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, shelves, walls, floors, drains, and storage areas in accordance with health and safety standards
  • Properly handle, operate, and clean kitchen equipment to prevent damage, injury, or contamination
  • Assist with receiving, stocking, rotating, and organizing food and supply inventory as directed
  • Work collaboratively with culinary team members to ensure timely preparation and delivery of high-quality food products
  • Adhere to all company policies, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and appearance guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
