SSP America is a leading operator of food and beverage concessions in travel locations across the United States. Known for providing high-quality dining experiences at airports, train stations, and other travel hubs, SSP America partners with a range of popular and well-loved brands to offer travelers diverse and delicious food options. The company emphasizes creating a welcoming environment for employees and customers alike while promoting safety, efficiency, and quality in all aspects of its operations. With an extensive presence in busy travel spots like the Chicago International Airport (CID), SSP America is dedicated to delivering exceptional service and memorable dining experiences to millions of travelers each year.
Currently, SSP America is seeking motivated Prep Cooks to join its team at the restaurants inside the CID Airport. This opportunity offers both full-time and part-time shifts, providing flexibility for individuals with various scheduling needs. The position offers an hourly wage of $18.00, immediate hiring, and a range of benefits including two weeks of paid time off (PTO) and significant opportunities for advancement within the company. The Prep Cook role is integral to the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring that all food preparation meets the highest standards for quality, presentation, and safety.
In this role, Prep Cooks will be responsible for following all recipes and practicing portion control to prepare, garnish, and present ordered items consistently and to specification. They will contribute to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen or station setup daily, ensuring that all required food items, paper products, and condiments are stocked appropriately. Proper handling, storage, and rotation of all products to maintain quality and reduce waste is a key responsibility. Prep Cooks will also be tasked with the regular maintenance, cleaning, set-up, and breakdown of kitchen machinery and equipment, making sure these are in safe and working order.
Stock management, including cutting and storing all perishables daily, is crucial to maintain product freshness. The job also requires completing opening, ongoing, and closing checklists to adhere to health and safety standards. Prep Cooks are expected to take responsibility for the quality of all products served to customers and to perform assigned cleaning tasks using standard cleaning products to maintain compliance with health regulations. This role demands physical stamina as standing for long periods and working in confined spaces is often required.
Ideal candidates for the Prep Cook position will be at least 18 years old and have at least one year of experience in a food service environment, demonstrating familiarity with kitchen operations, food handling, and safety protocols. A high school diploma is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential for interaction with coworkers and guests. Basic math skills to follow recipes and portion control are necessary. Brand certification, as required by SSP America, ensures that employees meet company and regulatory standards. SSP America is committed to equal opportunity employment and provides reasonable accommodations throughout the application and hiring process for candidates with disabilities or other protected statuses. Joining SSP America as a Prep Cook offers not only a competitive wage but also a supportive work environment where growth and development are encouraged.
