As a Prep Cook at The Heathman Hotel, you will play a crucial role in supporting the culinary team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality food and exceptional guest experiences. This position is responsible for key kitchen preparation tasks, including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, preparing sauces, and assembling base recipes. The Prep Cook maintains a clean and organized workspace while adhering strictly to standardized recipes and portion controls. Additionally, the role involves labeling, dating, and storing food items according to stringent safety standards to ensure compliance with health regulations. This position supports the line cooks and chefs during busy service periods and assists in inventory management using FIFO methods to guarantee fresh ingredients.

The Prep Cook will also participate in cleaning duties involving kitchen equipment, floors, workstations, and storage areas to maintain the highest level of sanitation. This role occasionally supports banquet, restaurant, and catering preparation needs, making it a versatile and integral part of the culinary operations at The Heathman. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, strong organizational skills, and a passion for culinary excellence and hospitality. You will also need to be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while collaborating effectively with team members.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food preparation role preferred
  • Food Handler Certification preferred or required per local regulations
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Able to follow recipes and health and safety guidelines
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Commitment to maintaining high sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Prepare ingredients including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, preparing sauces, and assembling basic recipes
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked prep stations
  • Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications established by the culinary team
  • Label, date, and properly store food items in accordance with food safety standards
  • Assist line cooks and chefs during service as needed
  • Receive and organize deliveries while rotating inventory using FIFO methods
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain sanitation standards and comply with all health department regulations
  • Assist with cleaning duties including kitchen equipment, floors, storage areas, and workstations
  • Support banquet, restaurant, and catering preparation needs when required
