Job Description
The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort located in Scottsdale, Arizona, is an iconic and elegant hospitality establishment known for delivering exceptional guest experiences. As part of the Marriott International family, The Phoenician offers a blend of historic charm and modern luxury, providing guests with a sophisticated retreat that emphasizes authentic service and cultural richness. The resort hosts a variety of fine dining options, luxurious accommodations, and world-class amenities that appeal to discerning travelers seeking memorable, personalized experiences. Positioned in the upscale market segment, this resort balances tradition with innovation and strives to maintain its status as a premier destination for both leisure and business visitors.
The current opportunity at The Phoenician is for a culinary position within their food and beverage department, specifically at J&G Steakhouse, a well-regarded luxury restaurant known for its high culinary standards and refined dining ambiance. This role is full-time and classified as non-management, suitable for candidates with a passion for culinary arts who want to grow their expertise in a distinguished environment. The resort encourages continuous learning by partnering with Rouxbe Cooking School to provide associates access to online culinary training programs. These programs offer a self-paced approach to learning with hundreds of visually appealing lessons designed to enhance practical skills and facilitate career growth within the culinary field.
The culinary associate will be responsible for a range of essential kitchen duties such as preparing ingredients, including chopping, portioning, and storing food items; washing and peeling fresh fruits and vegetables; weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients accurately; cooking food according to recipes and presentation standards; preparing cold dishes; and operating kitchen equipment like ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers. Attention to detail is crucial for testing food to ensure proper cooking levels, monitoring food quality, and maintaining sanitation by cleaning kitchen tools, workstations, and equipment. Associates must also ensure food safety by checking appliance and food temperatures and adhere to company policies regarding safety, security, and professional appearance.
The nature of the role demands physical stamina, as employees will be standing, sitting, or walking for long periods and may need to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This position fosters a collaborative team environment where positive working relationships are developed to achieve common goals. Communication skills are important, requiring clear and professional speaking, active listening, and appropriate responses to colleagues’ concerns. The company values confidentiality, asset protection, and compliance with quality expectations consistently throughout all tasks.
Ideal candidates will have at least one year of experience in a luxury restaurant or similar high-end culinary setting and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. While supervisory experience or formal certifications are not required, the preferred background emphasizes hands-on knowledge and familiarity with upscale culinary operations. Marriott International, the parent company, is committed to diversity and inclusion, offering equal employment opportunity across all protected bases and fostering an environment where employees from diverse cultures and experiences can thrive.
Joining The Phoenician means being part of a historic and prestigious brand within The Luxury Collection Hotels and Resorts portfolio. With over 120 properties worldwide, The Luxury Collection is recognized for unique hotels that reflect their local culture and heritage while delivering unparalleled luxury and heartfelt service. This role offers employees a chance to be part of a global team dedicated to exceptional hospitality service and personal growth within a large, supportive international company.
