The role of Prep Cook at Curry in the Box is essential to the smooth operation of the kitchen. Reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager, the Prep Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of food products including meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, sauces, stocks, breads, and other items according to the established Daily Prep List. This role demands proficiency in utilizing a range of kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and more to ensure all food products meet the restaurant's standards for portion size, cooking method, and quality. The Prep Cook plays a key part in maintaining the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the work area, including cooking and refrigeration equipment, to comply with health and safety regulations.
In addition to food preparation, the Prep Cook is responsible for completing opening and closing checklists, assisting with kitchen closing procedures, and reporting any food quality or equipment problems to the Kitchen Manager promptly. The role requires strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with kitchen personnel and management, as well as a commitment to following all kitchen policies and procedures accurately. Candidates should be physically capable of performing tasks that involve standing for long periods, lifting moderate weights, and performing repetitive motions essential to food preparation. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous kitchen experience preferred but not mandatory
- ability to follow detailed instructions and recipes
- strong attention to detail and hygiene standards
- good communication skills
- physical ability to perform required kitchen tasks
- willingness to work flexible hours and shifts
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year experience in kitchen preparation and cooking is a plus but not necessary
- at least 6 months experience in a similar capacity
- able to communicate clearly with managers and kitchen personnel
- physically able to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds
- able to stand for long periods up to 5 hours
Job Duties
- Complete opening and closing checklists
- refer to Daily Prep List at the start of each shift for assigned duties
- prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and other kitchen equipment
- understand and comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen policies
- portion food products according to standard recipes
- maintain a clean and sanitary work station area including all kitchen equipment
- close the kitchen properly and assist others in closing
- attend scheduled employee meetings and contribute suggestions
- report equipment and food quality problems promptly
- inform Kitchen Manager of product shortages
- use Standard Recipe Card for all preparations
- perform other related duties as assigned by Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty
