Job Description
The company hiring for this position is a reputable food service establishment known for providing quality food products and excellent customer service. This organization takes pride in its commitment to maintaining high food quality standards and a friendly dining atmosphere. As a food service company, it operates in a fast-paced environment where teamwork, efficiency, and attention to detail are paramount. Located in a vibrant area, it offers flexible working hours and a range of employee benefits designed to support the well-being and professional growth of its staff. The starting pay rate is competitive, offering $16.50 per hour for most locations and a higher starting rate of $17.00 per hour for the Kailua location, reflecting the company's commitment to attract and retain dedicated team members.
The role available is that of a Prep Cook, reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager. This is a pivotal position within the food service department, where the successful candidate will assist in the preparation of quality food products that meet the company’s standards for taste, safety, and presentation. The Prep Cook will also play a crucial role in customer service by providing a welcoming and courteous experience when interacting with customers. Responsibilities include greeting customers within close proximity, preparing a variety of food items such as bentos, roast chicken, fish, salads, sandwiches, and desserts, and ensuring that food inventory and quality are consistently monitored. The position requires the candidate to conduct hourly temperature checks for food safety, maintain a clean and organized workstation, and perform sanitation duties including washing dishes and tools. The Prep Cook will also work with various kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, fryers, and slicers, and must be capable of manual knife skills such as slicing, dicing, and mincing.
In addition to culinary skills, the position demands physical stamina and the ability to handle lifting and carrying duties, as well as safety-consciousness in following kitchen procedures. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with the public, possess strong time management skills, and have knowledge of proper sanitation practices and meat and fish varieties. The work environment is air-conditioned but can be hot near cooking areas and chilly when accessing refrigerated products. Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be at least 18 years old to operate kitchen machinery. This role offers a supportive workplace culture with benefits including flexible hours, employee discounts, paid holidays, comprehensive medical and dental insurance, life insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, voluntary insurance plans, long-term disability, 401K matching, and management bonuses for qualifying positions. This makes it an attractive opportunity for individuals seeking to develop their culinary career in a dynamic and customer-focused setting.
