Job Description
The Salvation Army is a well-established charitable organization known worldwide for its commitment to serving communities and fostering human services. With a mission deeply rooted in compassion and aid, The Salvation Army runs numerous programs and facilities, including camps designed to nurture and develop individuals in safe, supportive environments. The organization prides itself on maintaining high ethical standards and incorporating spiritual and communal values into all its programs and activities. This particular role is within their camp setting, where the focus is not only on culinary excellence but also on the holistic experience of campers and staff alike. The Salvation Army camp environment encourages teamwork, personal growth, and spiritual life, creating a unique atmosphere that blends work with meaningful community involvement.
The Prep Cook position at The Salvation Army camp is a temporary, full-time role reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager. This position offers a weekly pay rate of $375 and includes eligibility for benefits such as sick leave that accrues from the hire date. The role is designed for individuals who have a passion for food service within a community-focused setting and are willing to support the camp’s operational needs beyond the kitchen. Duties extend to participating in various camp activities, supporting kitchen cleanliness, and aiding in camper engagement. The Prep Cook is instrumental in maintaining kitchen sanitation, assisting in food preparation, and upholding health and safety standards according to USDA and American Camping Association guidelines. The role requires flexibility, as staff may be asked to assist in other camp-related tasks to ensure smooth operations during camp sessions. It also emphasizes personal responsibility for safety, cleanliness, and modeling behavior that reflects the organization’s mission and values. This position is ideal for individuals who are not only skilled in food preparation but also enjoy working in a dynamic, community-centered, and spiritually uplifting environment. It combines practical kitchen skills with broader responsibilities that contribute to a positive and safe camp experience for campers and staff alike. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, hold or obtain necessary certifications such as First Aid, CPR, and ServSafe, and demonstrate reliability, organization, and a supportive attitude towards the camp’s mission and guests. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to be part of a respected charitable organization while gaining experience in food service and camp operations.
