The role of Prep Cook at Owens Corning is a full-time position based at the company’s facility, offering a competitive hourly wage of $16.00. Reporting directly to Susan Philo, the Prep Cook will be an essential part of the food service department, responsible for preparing a variety of foods with attention to taste, presentation, and safety. This position requires a hands-on approach to food preparation, storage, and service, ensuring all meals meet Owens Corning’s high standards for quality and hygiene. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

As a Prep Cook, you will be tasked with a range of duties including washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables, portioning and wrapping food items, and ensuring that all preparation activities follow approved procedures and food safety protocols. You will manage food storage by receiving and properly storing supplies, temperatures monitoring, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Additionally, this role involves delivering excellent customer service, engaging with customers, and assisting in food service areas. Working as part of a team, the Prep Cook will contribute to a positive work environment, maintaining clean and sanitary conditions throughout the food preparation area.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in food preparation or related field preferred
  • Ability to follow detailed food safety and sanitation protocols
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Good physical stamina and manual dexterity
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as required

Job Duties

  • Wash, peel, and cut various foods such as fruits and vegetables to prepare for cooking or serving
  • Place food trays over food warmers for immediate service or store them in refrigerated storage
  • Portion and wrap food or place it directly on plates for service to customers
  • Weigh or measure ingredients
  • Mix ingredients for green salads, molded fruit salads, vegetable salads, and pasta salads
  • Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas
  • Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage
  • Take and record temperature of food and food storage areas such as refrigerators and freezers
  • Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and heating equipment to ensure proper functioning
  • Engage with and provide superior service to all customers
  • Serve prepared food to customers, ensuring proper proportions and packaging
  • Describe items to customers and answer questions regarding the items as needed
  • Contribute to a positive team environment
  • Recognize and reinforce individual and team accomplishments
  • Identify alarms or changes in morale and performance
  • Communicate areas of concern to the manager
  • Maintain calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to set a positive example for the team
  • Follow operational policies and procedures

  • Organize and stock supplies, service stations and products
  • Scrub and polish counters, tables, and other equipment
  • Clean glasses, dishes, and equipment
  • Perform other duties such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes to keep equipment and facilities sanitary
  • Additional projects and assignments as needed
