The Prep Cook position at J. Alexander's is a vital role within their professional, fast-paced, scratch kitchen. This role serves as a critical part of the team responsible for ensuring that all food preparation meets J. Alexander's stringent quality and presentation standards. Working in a typical open-kitchen setting visible to guests, the Prep Cook collaborates closely with line cooks, assemblers, expos, and management to coordinate kitchen operations efficiently. This position demands excellent communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within the team.
Responsibilities include executing food recipes accurately in line with company specifications, maintaining a clean and organized station, and adhering strictly to sanitation protocols. The Prep Cook also participates in opening and closing duties, ensuring the kitchen is prepared and cleaned properly for each service. This role requires familiarity with a range of kitchen equipment including knives, slicers, mixers, stoves, and ovens. Although previous kitchen, culinary, or chef experience is preferred, it is not mandatory, as on-the-job training and a supportive work environment facilitate skill development.

Job Requirements
- must be 18 years of age to operate kitchen equipment
- experience with kitchen equipment including knives, slicers, mixers, stoves, and ovens required
- flexibility to work various shifts
- ability to follow established sanitation protocols
- reliable and punctual
- physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks
- willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous experience in a kitchen, culinary, or chef role preferred but not required
- knowledge of kitchen equipment operation including knives, slicers, mixers, stoves, and ovens
- strong communication skills
- ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- attention to detail and commitment to food safety and sanitation
- flexibility to work a variety of shifts
Job Duties
- prepare ingredients and perform food prep tasks according to recipes and company specifications
