Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous professional food preparation or cooking experience
  • Serve Safe or other recognized hygiene qualification
  • Ability to operate major kitchen equipment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene
  • Physical stamina to perform job duties
  • Willingness to work full-time or part-time
  • Ability to follow directions and ask questions for clarification if needed

Job Qualifications

  • Previous professional food preparation or cooking experience
  • Serve Safe or other recognized hygiene qualification required
  • Understanding of proper use of major kitchen equipment, including stoves, grills, refrigeration, slicer, knives, and warmers
  • Commitment to quality service and food knowledge
  • Possess a positive attitude and work well with other team members
  • Be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and serving personnel
  • Be willing to follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed
  • Be able to work positively under pressure in a fast-paced time sensitive restaurant environment
  • Teamwork - Promotes cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and deliverables
  • Have the physical abilities to carry out the functions of the job descriptions

Job Duties

  • Assist cooks in preparation of food
  • Pre-cut ingredients such as vegetables or meat
  • Weigh, measure, season, and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • Observe and test food to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently
  • Set up line according to kitchen guidelines
  • Wrap, date and refrigerate food
  • May assist with inventory when necessary
  • Store and properly handle raw or prepared food and non-food supplies
  • Clean and sanitize production equipment, work surfaces and kitchen according to cleaning schedules and procedures
  • Empty trash containers as required
  • Handle food in a manner that is consistent with local health department guidelines
  • Follow proper food handling techniques and coordinates the use of time, material and equipment to avoid waste and unnecessary expense
  • Maintains a safe, orderly, and clean kitchen and demonstrates such through example, using proper food handling techniques
  • Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene
  • Ensures kitchen and storage areas are kept clean and organized
  • May assist with product ordering & maintaining inventory when necessary
  • Other duties as requested by manager, chefs, etc. Example: Dishwasher needed in emergencies
