The University’s Housing Department, specifically within the HSS Dining Service, is currently seeking a highly skilled Culinarian for the role of Prep Chef. This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $17.889 per hour, offering a hands-on role within one of the University’s core service areas—dining services. The Prep Chef will be heavily involved in kitchen production and operations. This role requires a dedicated individual passionate about food excellence, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to foster a positive experience for guests. The Prep Chef will engage in various tasks including food preparation using traditional methods, inventory management, food quality control, and maintaining cleanliness standards.
The Prep Chef will not only contribute to daily kitchen functions but will also participate in menu development and cost control measures. Key responsibilities include setting up and closing kitchen stations, cooking, restocking ingredients, monitoring food safety and presentation, and training other kitchen staff. This role demands a proactive and communicative professional who can work efficiently both independently and as part of a kitchen team. - two years of professional culinary experience
- ability to read, write, weigh, and measure

- Food Handler's permit or ability to obtain by passing Safety and Sanitation test

- supervisory experience preferred
- proficiency with Microsoft Office, CBOARD or similar menu management software, Lean Path, and Transact software preferred
- advanced verbal and written communication skills
- strong organizational skills with duties and personnel
Job Duties
- Aid in the creation of menu additions
- perform tasks in multiple kitchen areas including setting up and closing stations, cooking, restocking, recipe and ingredient preparation, inventory management, dish machine operation, and cleaning
- control costs and minimize waste
- ensure high standards of food presentation
- monitor food quality including temperature, taste, and appearance
- train and guide staff on culinary techniques
- provide outstanding customer service to dining guests
