Harbor Rail Services is a reputable company with a solid 35-year history in the railroad sector, operating across 50 nationwide locations. As a leading provider of railcar maintenance and repair services, Harbor Rail Services is committed to ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of railcars, which are integral to the railroad industry. The company values its employees highly and focuses on their training and development, offering competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits packages, and ample opportunities for career growth. Safety is the cornerstone of Harbor Rail Services' operational philosophy, supported by strong leadership and rigorous safety standards that ensure a secure working environment for all staff members.

The Pre-Trip position at Harbor Rail Services plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and operational readiness of railcars before they go into service. This full-time role reports directly to the Location Supervisor or Manager of Locations and is vital for the overall efficiency and safety of the railroad's daily operations. The individual in this role is responsible for conducting detailed pre-trip inspections of railcars, ensuring that every railcar leaving the facility is compliant with safety standards and free from defects that could compromise transportation safety.

The Pre-Trip worker performs inspections on the railcar's condition, lading equipment, safety appliances, and interior, ensuring they meet stringent safety and regulatory requirements. They clean debris, replace any defective tiedown equipment, lubricate components as needed, and work collaboratively with the maintenance team to resolve any issues identified. This role demands a high level of attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while adhering to established safety protocols. Accuracy in maintaining inspection and repair records is essential, as is active participation in safety briefings and ongoing training to stay updated on industry best practices.

Additionally, candidates must meet specific physical requirements, including the ability to spend a significant portion of their work time on their feet and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting heavy loads up to 75 pounds. The position also requires individuals who can work in various outdoor conditions and have clear hearing and vision capabilities to recognize railroad signals and maintain situational awareness. Effective communication skills are necessary to liaise with team members, supervisors, and external partners.

Being part of Harbor Rail Services means joining an organization that values safety, professionalism, and employee well-being, offering comprehensive benefits including 401(k), dental, health, vision, and life insurance, along with paid time off. The company operates a 7-day schedule, including holidays, and expects flexibility with on-call duties. Harbor Rail Services is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, promoting a diverse and inclusive work environment free from discrimination. This Pre-Trip position is an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking a challenging role with real impact on the railroad industry’s safety and efficiency.
