- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 3-6 months of related experience
- previous experience working with medical insurance highly preferred
- keyboarding and computer skills
- ability to file accurately
- professional communication and excellent customer service skills
- ability to perform light clerical duties
- previous computer experience including hospital-based programs such as Medic, Misys, or Tiger preferred
- proficiency in ability to organize, alphabetize, and prioritize multiple tasks
- excellent math skills
- ability to use basic office equipment
- ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical information
- excellent verbal and communication skills

Job Duties
- Register patients/customers and confirm patient/guarantor demographic and insurance information
- complete all required fields in practice management system
- determine patient co-payments utilizing electronic insurance verification system and collect payments on amounts due
- enter charges/payments into MISYS/Tiger or other practice management system
- prepare encounter forms for charge entry using correct ICD-9 and CPT codes
- schedule and coordinate patient appointments, tests, and referrals
- answer telephones, take messages, route callers, and provide or relay information consistent with service standards
- maintain patient medical records according to required standards
- obtain patient authorization for transfer of private health information
- maintain patient confidentiality
- perform basic office duties such as sorting, distributing mail, copying, filing, faxing, ordering supplies, and completing forms
- compose, format, type, and proofread standard correspondence and reports
- maintain a clean work environment and communicate equipment issues
- maintain accountability for special projects
- establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization
- complete required training and education
- ensure completion of required documentation
- treat patients, families, visitors, customers, and employees with kindness and respect
- demonstrate teamwork and integrity
- maintain knowledge of hospital safety and infection control policies
- maintain provider schedules including meetings, appointments, cancellations, reschedules, and add-ons
- print Physician daily schedules
- run reports from the MISYS/Tiger system
- prepare daily deposit and verify accuracy
- perform other duties as assigned
- maintain unsupervised access to medication rooms for stocking and retrieving supplies.
