Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 3-6 months of related experience
- Previous experience working with medical insurance preferred
- Must have keyboarding and computer skills
- Ability to file accurately
- Professional communication and excellent customer service skills
- Previous computer experience including hospital-based programs (Medic, Misys, Tiger) preferred
- Proficient in organizing, alphabetizing, and filing
- Excellent math skills
- Ability to use basic office equipment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical information
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain positive customer service
- Ability to establish effective working relationships in a team environment
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Ability to handle mental and visual tasks with high levels of fatigue
- Physical capability for walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and lifting light objects
- Ability to register patients and confirm demographic and insurance information
- Complete required practice management fields
- Determine and collect co-payments
- Enter charges and payments
- Prepare encounter forms using correct coding
- Schedule patient appointments, tests, and referrals
- Answer phones and route calls
- Maintain patient medical records
- Obtain authorization for health information transfers
- Perform basic office duties
- Compose and proofread documents
- Maintain clean work areas
- Communicate equipment problems

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Registers patients and confirms patient and guarantor demographics and insurance information
- Completes required fields in practice management system
- Determines patient co-payments using electronic insurance verification and collects payments
- Enters charges and payments into MISYS or Tiger system
- Prepares encounter forms using correct ICD-9 and CPT codes as per Codescan
- Schedules and coordinates patient appointments, tests, and referrals
- Answers telephones, takes messages, and routes calls
- Maintains patient medical records according to standards
- Obtains patient authorization for information transfer
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Performs basic office tasks such as sorting mail, copying, filing, and ordering supplies
- Composes and proofreads correspondence and reports
- Maintains clean work environment and reports equipment issues
- Manages special projects and individual assignments
- Engages in continuous study and completes required training
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation for responsibilities
- Treats patients, families, visitors, and employees with kindness and respect
- Demonstrates teamwork and integrity
- Adheres to hospital safety and infection control policies
- Maintains provider schedules including appointments and meetings
- Prints daily physician schedules
- Runs reports from MISYS/Tiger system
- Prepares daily deposit verification
- Performs duties assigned by physicians or practice managers
- Maintains access to medication rooms for supplies
- Supports Practice Centralized Services with demographic and insurance data entry and communication for accurate patient registration
