This particular role is based at the BUFF-CHEEKTOWAGA, NY location of Michaels and focuses on event coordination within the store. The position entails planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple events simultaneously, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other creative workshops. The goal is to offer a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for all guests, ranging from children as young as four to adults over ninety-four years old. The role demands a balance between creative event planning and delivering exceptional customer service. Team members in this position will be responsible for demonstrating craft techniques, organizing activities like face painting, and managing party add-ons such as balloons and goody bags to meet company standards.

In addition to event coordination, this role includes vital operational tasks. These involve managing merchandise inventory, including truck unloads and restocking shelves according to planograms, ensuring the store maintains high merchandise recovery standards, and supporting shrink and safety programs. Employees also provide fast and friendly checkout experiences, assist customers with product locations, and promote company programs like the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards to enhance the customer experience. Candidates must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to adapt plans according to client feedback.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children and children’s events
  • Retail and/or customer service experience required
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to move throughout the store
  • Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach, and stretch regularly
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves by ladder or similar equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to handle job stress and effectively interact with others
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and early mornings as needed

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events at once including children’s birthday parties and other craft classes or events
  • Engage with clients of all ages by creating an environment of fun and creativity
  • Demonstrate and instruct party participants in the completion of craft projects and perform face painting and other activities
  • Facilitate and implement party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons to company standards
  • Communicate events with clients and store team members
  • Complete administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork
  • Adjust plans and events based on client feedback and needs
  • Create backup or emergency plans to be executed as needed
  • Ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events
  • Uphold the company’s cleanliness and safety standards by setting up, breaking down, and cleaning before and after each event
  • Help customers shop and locate products and provide solutions
  • Provide fast and friendly checkout experience
  • Engage customers on benefits of Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments
  • Educate customers on Voice of Customer survey
  • Assist with Omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store
  • Participate in truck unload, stocking and planogram processes
  • Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • Perform Store in Stock Optimization and AD set duties as assigned
  • Support shrink and safety programs
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Company programs to ensure compliance
  • Interact with others respectfully and positively
  • Cross train in Custom Framing selling and production
  • Participate in daily store cleanliness activities including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and maintaining restrooms
  • Perform other duties as assigned
