The Service Porter position at AutoNation involves a variety of vehicle maintenance and service-related tasks central to ensuring that customers receive their cars in excellent condition and an exceptional dealership experience. This role is integral in maintaining vehicle cleanliness inside and out, removing protective coverings, tagging customer vehicles appropriately, and inspecting vehicles for any damages or irregularities prior to returning them to customers. Service Porters also assist with customer and dealership personnel transportation, expedient parts delivery, and manage the neatness and organization of vehicle lots to comply with dealership presentation standards.
This position requires attention to detail, a proactive attitude in identifying and reporting vehicle damages, and the ability to operate vehicles safely, including manual transmission cars. The Service Porter’s everyday responsibilities further include battery testing, shop cleaning, and support with deliveries, all of which contribute to the smooth operation of the service department. The role commands active communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues and customers, ensuring a high standard of service and customer satisfaction.

- 6-12 months of previous work experience preferred
- ability to read and comprehend written instructions and information

Job Duties
- Assist with service write-ups and tagging of customer cars and trucks
- remove vehicle protective coverings and ID tags prior to returning completed vehicle to customer
- inspect vehicles for stains, debris and damages before returning to customer, report any damage immediately
- transport customers and dealership personnel as needed
- perform deliveries as required
- clean interior and exterior of new and used vehicles
- keep vehicle lot neat and orderly, moving units as directed and per dealership display standards
- return vehicle keys to appropriate service consultant
- pick up vehicles from and deliver vehicles to storage
- pick up parts from the Parts Department
- test batteries of customer vehicles in service drive
- maintain building and grounds as needed
- assist with shop clean-up and deliveries when needed
