Job Description
Enterprise is a reputable national nonprofit organization dedicated to making a good home possible for the millions of families without one. Founded in 1982, Enterprise has played a pivotal role in supporting community development organizations, investing capital for impact, advancing housing policies at every level of government, and directly building and managing communities. Over the decades, Enterprise has invested a staggering $92.0 billion and created 1.1 million homes across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The organization is committed to making home and community places of pride, power, and belonging, reflecting deep values of equity and community empowerment. Serving alongside innovative minds and passionate professionals, employees at Enterprise are empowered to drive systemic change, particularly aimed at advancing racial equity and creating long-lasting impacts in communities.
Currently, Enterprise is looking for a full-time Porter to join their team at the Ellicott City, Maryland location. This position offers a competitive base hourly rate ranging from $17.00 to $19.42 per hour, complemented by a $3,000 sign-on bonus as an added incentive. The Porter role plays an essential part in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall appeal of the residential community managed by Enterprise. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Porter is responsible for the daily upkeep of both the interior and exterior areas of the property. This role ensures that residents live in a clean, safe, and attractive environment which in turn enhances resident satisfaction and strengthens the community’s curb appeal for prospective residents. The position requires individuals who have prior experience in residential or commercial cleaning, along with competency in using hand and power tools.
The ideal candidate for the Porter position is service-oriented, friendly, outgoing, and energetic, with a strong willingness to address a variety of tasks to keep the property in top condition. The Porter will actively embody Enterprise’s HEROES principles — Helpful, Engaged, Responsive, Outstanding, Excellent, and Successful — in all duties and interactions, highlighting the organization’s commitment to excellent customer service and community engagement. Key responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness of all areas, managing trash and debris responsibly, ensuring landscaping needs such as watering flowers or snow removal are met, and responding promptly and courteously to emergencies. The Porter will also contribute to marketing efforts by providing outstanding customer service and will participate in apartment turnovers as needed.
Working at Enterprise offers a unique opportunity to be part of a mission-driven team contributing to affordable housing and community development. The role is not only vital for maintaining the physical environment but also central to supporting the positive experience of residents, welcoming guests, and upholding the values and policies of the organization. Employees benefit from a supportive work culture that values diversity, growth, and work-life balance. Moreover, the competitive compensation is supplemented by a comprehensive total rewards package including health, dental, and vision benefits, paid leave, performance bonuses, flexible work arrangements, mental health support, financial education, and development opportunities such as tuition reimbursement. Enterprise is proud to provide a career home where individuals are encouraged to grow professionally and personally while making a meaningful impact in the communities they serve.
