The Porter role at Matthews Motors is integral in ensuring the smooth operation of trailer logistics and inventory management under the guidance of the Trailer Shop Manager. This role primarily involves the retrieval and return of trailer units scheduled for maintenance or service, ensuring that trailers are properly positioned for work and customer use. The Porter facilitates delivery and transportation operations that support the sales and service teams by managing trailer movements around the property and to different customer locations as needed. This position demands high responsibility in organizing trailer parking, maintaining orderly traffic flow within the lot, and keeping accurate inventory records of trailer units.
The Porter must have a current CDL license and hold a valid DOT physical examination clearance card. Communication skills, reliability, and the ability to safely operate company vehicles are essential attributes for success in this role. Physical demands include lifting up to 30 pounds and performing activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and inspecting vehicles regularly. The Porter will typically spend 60-80% of their time traveling locally or out of town, requiring adaptability to irregular or extended work hours.

Job Duties
- Provides delivery and transportation support for sales operations
- retrieve and return trailer unit(s) that are ready to be worked on
- move trailer around for customers to different locations
- park trailers either in the shop and/or in an open space on property
- ensure the parking lot is organized allowing the flow of traffic to be functional
- maintain and update the inventory of trailer units parked on property
- performs other duties as assigned
