We are currently seeking motivated individuals for full-time Porter positions at our Exelixis location in Alameda, California. This role is essential to maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the foodservice area, contributing to a smooth and efficient customer dining experience. Working Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Porters will be an integral part of the front-of-house team, ensuring a hygienic and welcoming environment for guests. Compensation for these roles ranges from $20.00 to $21.50 per hour, reflecting Bon Appetit’s competitive wage standards.

As a Porter, you will play a vital role by ensuring that dining areas are clean and orderly at all times. Your responsibilities will include bussing, clearing, and cleaning tables, as well as maintaining floors, counters, windows, and beverage stations. The position requires a strong attention to detail to comply with all safety and sanitation standards, including adherence to HACCP protocols for food safety. You will be responsible for washing dishes, glasses, pots, and cleaning cooking stations and equipment, facilitating an efficient flow of service while maintaining hygiene standards.

Additionally, this role involves safely transporting dishes and utensils from the front of the house to the kitchen, receiving and storing heavy deliveries, and ensuring proper portion control and serving temperature maintenance. This position requires prior ServSafe and Food Handler certifications, reflecting the necessity of food safety knowledge for effective performance. A strong commitment to personal and team safety is also paramount, with adherence to company policies on protective gear usage and ergonomic lifting techniques.

Job Requirements

  • Prior ServSafe certification
  • Prior Food Handler certification
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting heavy items
  • Availability Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
  • Willingness to follow safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work full time
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Job Duties

  • Ensures tables are bussed, cleared and cleaned and floors are cleared and swept during peak service times and are prepped prior to service
  • Follows safety procedures when transporting dishes and utensils from the front of the house to the kitchen area using trays, bus tubs or carts
  • Washes dishes, glasses and pots
  • cleans cooking stations and equipment to expedite a smooth flow of service while maintaining sanitation standards
  • Scrapes and rinses food from dishes and washes them by hand or places them in racks or on conveyor to dishwashing machine depending on assigned equipment
  • Keeps display equipment clean, free of debris and in compliance with all safety and sanitation standards during meal service
  • Helps receive heavy deliveries from dock and transports them to assigned storage areas while observing all safe lifting standards
  • Ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of serving temperatures
