Job Requirements

  • Three years experience as a cleaner or maintainer of diverse commercial space
  • One year trade school or certificate program may substitute for two years experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Proficient in speaking reading and writing English at a high school level
  • Ability to understand and process written directives and work orders
  • Valid driver’s license mandatory and must drive agency vehicles when authorized

Job Duties

  • Daily maintenance cleaning dusting of program offices kitchens bathrooms common areas elevators lobbies corridors stairwells loading docks recreational areas facilities storage areas workshops
  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize all surfaces toilets partitions sinks tile surfaces walls doors hardware appliances glass doors replenish janitorial supplies
  • Clean and maintain reachable glass mirrors architectural metal work handrails elevator saddles moldings clean linoleum base on floor edges
  • Perform floor care including sweeping mopping vacuuming stripping waxing buffing and pressure washing
  • Use hand and power cleaning equipment and janitorial chemicals safely and properly
  • Clean unit exterior sidewalks 18 inches into gutters per NYC/DOS code and perform snow removal
  • Remove garbage daily recycle per NYC code and secure carry out refuse for scheduled pickup
  • Perform light repairs including painting wall hangings changing light bulbs minor floor and wall repairs
  • Move furniture for cleaning special events programs and space reconfiguration
  • Operate basic building systems controls and ensure proper functioning
  • Ensure compliance with fire regulations conduct monthly checks and inspections maintain clear exit routes
  • Participate in fire alarms and evacuation drills
  • Conduct basic grounds work including mowing raking trimming planting watering and weeding
  • Comply with facility cleaning maintenance and chemical handling regulations
  • Collaborate with handyman trades and facilities staff on related projects
  • Maintain clean organized hazard-free storage spaces
  • Complete and maintain job-related records including inventories work orders inspection reports
  • Submit supply lists for timely janitorial orders and maintain inventories
  • May be assigned to multiple programs
  • Attend and pass training such as equipment use OSHA DEP
  • Perform other assigned duties
